A.     The main story line is that Chandler was going to ask Monica to marry him.  He had prepared the best champagne, practiced "Would you marry me?'' for many times and chose the restaurant which is Monica's favorite.  However, when everything's got ready and Chandler was going to propose, Richard, Monica's ex-boyfriend, appeared.  This destroyed Chandler's perfect proposal, so Chandler changed his plan: he's going to pretend that he's against marriage so that he could give her a big surprise.  In the mean time, Richard told Monica how he loved her and wanted to get married with her.  But despite of this, the one who's Monica's true love was Chandler.  They engaged happily in the end.  Another story line is Ross broke up with Elisabeth.  He finally knew that they could never have a good ending.  The other story line is Rachel invited Phoebe and Joe to an auction hosted by her boss.  In the auction, Joe accidently bought an expensive boat that he couldn't afford at all.   B.     Phoebe is my favorite while Ross is the character I like least.  The reason is that Phoebe is so innocent that she viewed everything simple and easy.  I like the way she lived her life. [Although it's impractical.]  Just like SpongeBob!  In fact, everything is simple in our life!  It all depends on how you feel and your attitude towards them.  I don't like Ross so much is because he is immature to me.  He is very sensitive and he put great emphasize on speaking words.  But he is a funny guy and an indispensible character in this show!  C.     We can benefit from their conversations including the use of phrases, vocabularies, slangs, and even their talking skills!  While watching, I can also make my brain used to their speed and accents of talking and increase my listening comprehension.     49777071 [JeT] 朱育瑩

The queens and kings believed after they died they'll go on a long, new journey. Their bodies were prepared for that as well as valuable jewels and beautiful things. Queen Axtarte, who was afraid of tomb robbers, had her tomb made on the east bank of the Nile River because all the other tombs were on the west side. She made a curse："These are my words：Anyone who enters my tomb - anyone who steals from my tomb – anyone who touches my body - that person will die a terrible death. And many more shall die with him." In the story, there were two groups that wanted to steal it. One is a gang named Amsterdam Ring. They menaced Dr. Farrow, who knew the tomb well, to take them to the tomb and then smuggle them to Europe and America to make money. The other is an antiquities collector named Dr. Jusef Strengel who wanted the antiquities of his own. Salahadin El Nur, Chief Inspector in the Egyptian Police, with the help of many other people and his unexpected tricky moves, stopped the two groups from taking it away. I like this story because it makes me go on reading without interruptions. I was so nervous and thought that the villains may take the treasures away even if I knew it won't happen. I learned more vocabularies and phrases such as ''smuggle''、''roundabout''、''foreign number plate" and so on. I found myself more efficient this time! Reading English novels really helps me a lot! Into The Future Author：John Milne This edition published 1998 The first edition published 1991 Illustrator：Dermot Power & Donald Harley Publishing company：Heinemann Elt Number of pages：63 Level：Intermediate There are two science fiction stories in this book, including Robot Revolution and Left Behind. First story：Robot Revolution                It is the future.  Robots are created to serve people.  People no longer have to cook or do things by themselves.  But something happened：Robots began to have their own thoughts and they want to take control over human and the city they live.  Antia, a college graduates who majored in domestic architecture, is given orders to stay in a building where there were furniture and rooms displayed of the past.  There are sufficient food and drinks in it.  Major Kostin, a young army officer who gave orders to the girl, is trying to do something to protect human and fight against the army robots that wants people to leave the city and dominate it.  People are forced to leave to a barren place.  However, there is a discard silos used to store food and inside it is a tunnel leads to the building.  Human at last use electro magnets to demolish those robots and get back to the 20th centuries life---without robots help.                 I don't like this story because it is so unrealistic. There are many things that the author didn't explain in details.  For example, why the robots evolved?  Why did the officer sent Antia in the building only?  Why the people get hungry so fast?  So many things seemed nonsense.  But I still learned more vocabularies and uses of phrase. Second story：Left Behind                 There are two groups of people live on the planet called Hydra.  One group called ''The Elites'' (much like aliens) are going to leave the planet because there's a horrible disease that killed many of them.  Strangely, the disease only killed the Elites but not the Outsiders－the other group live on the planet.  The Elites did not have feelings and they obey command without any doubt.  A mother called Janiz was one of them.  She had to kill her ten months son because the space ship which is going to take them to another planet doesn't have enough rooms for all of them. She cannot do it because she loved him.  She hides it in a cave and hope that the Outsiders take care of him.  A girl who was one of the Outsiders found it and looked after him with an old man's help.  In the end, the Elites still come back to the original planet because they can't find any planet to live on.  The baby grows up and become the leader of the whole people.                 There are still some points that I can't figure out.  Why did the mother have feelings? Why didn't she obey the command?  Instead of finding the answers, I'll just accept it because it's a science fiction!  Anything may happen.                   This time, I only spent two hours to finish the whole book!  I read books in details so I usually take a long time reading a novel.  I found myself more efficient this time. 49777071 [JeT] 朱育瑩

The Moon Is Down Author：John Steinbeck Retold：M. J. Paine Series Editor：John Milne Word Level：Intermediate Year of publishing：First published in 1942 Publishing company：William Heinemann Ltd Number of pages：80 "The Moon Is Down" refers to a phrase spoken by Banquo's son Fleance in Shakespeare's Macbeth. The story details a military occupation of a small town in Northern Europe by the army of an unnamed nation at war with England and Russia. It has been translated into many languages across the world. It was even made into a movie starring Cedric Hardwicke, Henry Travers and Lee J. Cobb in 1943 and it was also adapted into a play by the same name. In this story's beginning, the invaders arrived in town and the people were frightened. Nobody expected them. They soon killed local soldiers and took the town. Their goal is to control the coal mine and organize increased production and exportation of coal. The peace began to break up when a miner, who was a nice man in the town, killed one of the invader's officers with his pick because he forced him to work. They shot him and the town's people began to fight against them. We can view this story in two sides. One is the invaders and the other is the town's people. The people was stunned, confused and nothing they could do. Soon, their anger replaced their fear and a ragged resistance movement formed. The invader's commander tried to maintain peace without fights and troubles but failed. He followed orders from above and imposed repressive measures to keep the production going. In the end, all semblance of harmony is ended. The occupiers feel isolated and surrounded by hate. Coal production grinds to a halt due mostly to the fact that allied planes have been dropping dynamites for the people to use to sabotage railroads, food supplies, power sources, and the mine itself. The townspeople would rather starve and be killed than cooperate with the invaders. When I began to read this book, I guessed that the events took place in France or England during world war two, because I've studied their history about the revolutions in eighteen century. I knew what it is all about when I search it online. I like this book because it told me the spirit of the people： never give up. I think it's precious and a life philosophy. The Diary of a Young Girl Author：Anne Frank Series Editors：Andy Hopkins and Jocelyn Potter Published and distributed by Pearson Education Limited Word Level：Intermediate（1700words） Classification：Contemporary British English Number of pages：57 It was during the time of the Second World War in Holland in 1942. The Germans had invaded the country. All the Jews were frightened for their lives. Their freedom disappeared; they must be indoors by eight o'clock at night, they cannot visit the theatre or the cinema and they had to wear the yellow star on their cloth. There were shooting and bombs dropping everywhere. The houses shook like grass in the wind and people caught awful illness. People have to wait in lines for vegetables and all kinds of other things or buy them in the black market because the prizes were too high to afford. Families were broken and many people were sent to the concentration camp and died. The Frank family decided to hide in a secret flat in Mr. Frank's office building. Soon another Jewish family, Mr. and Mrs. van Dann and their son Peter, joined the Franks. Their youngest daughter, Anne, wrote a diary of their lives in hiding. It started in1942 when Anne received a diary as her birthday present from her parents and ended before Anne was took away by the police to the concentration camp and died there in early1945. The diary included what they ate, their surroundings, sounds of shooting and people yelling, airplanes dropping bombs near them and robbers or thieves breaking into houses and stole everything that's valuable. It also included Anne and Peter's love, arguments, danger, hunger and fear. Despite this, they still hope for the best until the final day when the police arrive. It is a story about the awful suffering of the Jews and also a story about love and hope for the future. I've read this history in senior school's history book and I've watched the movie called ''Schindler's List''. It is a movie about a man, a member of the Nazi party, womanizer, and war profiteer who saved the lives of more than 1,100 Jews during the Holocaust. It is the triumph of one man who made a difference, and the drama of those who survived one of the darkest chapters in human history because of what he did.. I was really shocked when I saw what the Jews had been through and the brutal means the Germans took. I cannot imagine why people had to kill each other just to fit their own stupid ideas like ethnic cleansing. 49777071 [ J e T ] 朱育瑩 When is the time that we suddenly enlightened? I became an efficient learner when I entered senior high school. Gradually, I realize how I did it. The most important factor is our attitudes toward the things we do and the strategies we use. I turned these into habits and stood out. To put in a nutshell, the strategies I use include ''Take charge of your mind'', ''Listen actively'' and ''Study efficiently''. 1. Take charge of your mind: The author said that we should become more aware of what it is doing from moment to moment. When I lose my concentration in class, I always do the same thing the author suggested. I would think what was the teacher talking about and what he or she is going to discuss. Keep telling myself not to wonder in class is also a good method for me to focus. 2. Listen actively: Take notes. It can not only improve our listening but make us much easier to prepare examinations. Take not only the notes what the teacher wrote on the blackboard but also the words or sentences the teacher said, then you'll benefit a lot from it. 3. Study efficiently: In order to get the most from my studying, I prefer going to the libraries after class. Libraries are the best place with the fewest distractions for me. I can entirely focus on what I'm studying and also get some references. I think I'll try ''View frustrations as opportunities". I've been told that "Failure is the mother of success", but when I've tried much time and I don't feel a sense of accomplishment, I tend to give it up. Successful people tried millions times to invent something or figure out problems. I think I should try more times and be strong! After finish reading the strategies for effective learning, I have some questions: 1. How do we turn these strategies into habits? It's really not an easy work to require a new method and get used to it soon. 2. How to ask good questions in class? What's the definition of ''good'' question? 3. Laziness is human nature. What are the ways of becoming aggressive in class?

The stories were a lot more interesting than I read the week before last week. ''Buried Treasure'' tells that Mario was a vey lazy lad. He lay in a hammock and refused to do a stroke of work. His neighbor, Gianni, drew a fake map and told Mario that there's a buried treasure in the farmland. Mario was so excited that he immediately started to clear the weeds, water the field, manure and dig for gold. He didn't notice Gianni dropping seeds as he walked across the field. In the end, the whole field was covered with rows and rows of juicy lettuce. A merchant came across and bought all of the lettuce. ''That's your gold'' said Gianni. From then on. Mario worked hard and grew huge crops of wonderful vegetables very year. This story reminds me of my junior high school's teacher. She told us what truly influences our work and our life is our attitude! Attitude decides everything. Other stories I've read includes ''Nail Soup'', ''Stealing the Sun'', ''The Ivory Wand'', ''The Little Sparrow'' and so on. I recommend this book a lot. It's a very good material for beginners. The pictures are marvelous. Though you don't understand some words, you can still know them in the context. He lived with his cousin Ambrose and he looked after him as his son. Ambrose was a gentleman of leisure. He had his own big house, servants, land and farms in England. It was often cold and damp in winter in England. Ambrose had to go abroad every winter to Italy. There, he found his love, Philip's cousin, Rachel. At first he was very happy to be with her because they had the same interests and hobbies. Ambrose didn't return to England in summer. He preferred to be with Rachel in England. Gradually, the letters Philip received begin to be sad. The writing was so bad and finally no letters were sent to Philip. As Philip was ready to leave the house to Italy to find out what's happening, the last letter arrived from Ambrose. It was very short and almost impossible to read. ''For God's sake, come quickly! Rachel, my torment, has won. I am dying. Come quickly, or it will be too late!'' It was the 10th of July. However, Philip cannot reach Italy until the middle of August. When Philip reached Italy, Rachel was away and Ambrose was died. He died from brain tumor. Philip was furious at Rachel. She took Ambrose away from him. Then he met Rainaldi, who arranges everything for Rachel. He hated both of them, especially Rachel. When time went by, one day Rachel appeared. She brought Ambrose's things to Philip and stayed in his house. Day by day, Philip began to fall in love with her and decided that all the properties belong to her. In the end, she died because of walking on the new bridge which hasn't finished yet. I don't like the ending because it makes me feel that the story isn't end yet. I don't know what happened to Philip in the end and whether he got married with other girls or not. The story mainly focused on Philip's feelings. The author describes him as if he is true to life. I'm curious why Ambrose and Philip fall in love with Rachel so quickly. She only likes money! All she wants is money and the Ashley family's jewels. In all, I'm a little disappointed in choosing this book. I think I'm getting used to read English novel everyday. Although I really can't make myself enjoy in it at the beginning, I gradually think that I should get rid of those thoughts and just finish it. And I did it! That seems to be a magic. Ha! There are stories from Australia, Persia, Greece, France, America, Germany, India, New Zealand and so on. Traditional stories and fairy tales, some of which we had read before, still facinates me a lot. For example, the first story called ''Puss in Boots'' originated from France describes how the intelligent and thoughtful cat help his master live happily ever after with the beautiful princess and win the kings trust. Though the cat's master---a miller's son who just received a cat when his father died, thinking the cat is useless at the begining, then become very grateful for the cat at the end of the story. Other stories which I've read including ''Strong Magic'', a story telling us how the koala come from, ''How the Turtle got its Shell'', ''The Magic Fish Hook'', ''The Musicians of Bremen'' and many other wonderful stories. I think I've chosen the right book to read despite that it's easy. I followed my feeling to choose this book as my first reading journal because the pictures in this book really attracted me. The stories in it contain heroes and heroines, magic, imagined creatures and how things appear that ancestors cannot explain in the early stage of history. It helps ma learn more about the cultures in different continents. I enjoyed it very much. In order to read more efficiently, I buried myself in this book without any conversations and noises. To make myself enjoy in it, I would read it when I'm in a good mood. That's a way I found useful when reading this book. 朱育瑩49777071
