The main storyline:  Chandler is going to propose to Monica.  However, they bump into Richard, Monica's ex-boyfriend, before Chandler proposes.  So Chandler's plan is messed up.  Then he comes up with another plan. He lies to Monica that he doesn't want to get married at all, which makes her

sad.  He plans to propose later as a surprise.  But his plan is messed up again because Richard had just proposed to Monica.  So Monica goes to

Richard's home to get some comfort though she still loves Chandler.   When Chandler comes to Richar's home, she had left.  So he goes home to find Monica. Then he finds her  surrounded by a lot of candles with joy.  Because Joey does it for him..  Chandler's plan finally moves her and she says: " Yes, I do. "

My favorite character is Rachel. I admire her for both her beauty and her characteristic.  Although she is divorced.

She is still active to find her true love.  She has confidence in herself.  And she likes to try and change. So I admire her.

 

C.

Though sometimes I don't quite understand their senses of humor, but I still think it's an interesting way to improve listening my comprehension.  I think that if I watch this kind of English episodes more often and make it as a entertainment, my listening comprehension will improve gradually.

This book talked about a woman, Mei-Ying. The background of the story was in 1903. Mei-Ying was borned in a traditional Chinese family. When she was 5 years old, her mother wanted to bind her feet. However, she didn't want her feet bound. She looked at her mother's tiny feet and she thinked that her feet was horrible. She wanted to work instead of being carried all the time like her mother. However, her resistance was no use. In that

time, finding a good and rich husband was a good life for a woman. Fortunately, Mei-Ying had a chance to move to America because of her father's business. And she unbound her feet to set herself free. Then, unlike every Chines in America living the same lives as in China, she wanted to have live like Americans. She spoke good English and convinced of her father to let her help in his shoes store. She found that Chinese were not allowed saving their money in America bank. So she volunteered to solve this problem. And she finally found the first bank for Chinese. She became a very famous Chinese woman around the world. After reading this book, I understood more about traditional Chinese women's lives and cultural conflicts betwee west and east in that time. I feel sad about traditionalChinese women. They couldn't choose what they want. All the women were forced to have the same lives. Getting married and having kids are the only life goal. Though women get more entitlement now. I think the gender equality still needs to be improve.

I think that this book is really easy to read for me. So I could truly enjoy my reading. I finally choosed a proper book for myself.

This book is talking about the differences between English and Europeans and the strange things English do and say. The author categorized them into several subjects like The Language, The Weather, Tea and so on. The author is an alien in England. So he tried to offer some rules about being an alien in England. He wrote them in a funny, rude and sarcastic way. And because the English are so strang, they didn't get angry. Instead, they loved the book.

I've been to England before, so I was very interested in the book at first. And it didn't disappoint me. The author's point of view really surprised me and made me understand more about the English.

The following are something I learned from the book:

1. English do not have souls. They say less than what they mean. In England, if the boy loves the girl, he says, " You're all right, you know." If he really loves her, he says, " I really quite like you, in fact." If he wants to marry a girl, he says, " I say...would you...? " If he want to sleep with her, " I say...shall we...?"

---> How conservative the English are!

2. The easiest way to show that you have a good accent (or no foreign accent) is to hold a pipe or cigar in your mouth, to speak through your teeth and finish all your sentences with the question: " isn't it? "

----> I've already known that English emphasize the importance of accent. They can even identify your position, status and so on by listnening you accent. However, the way to have a good accent the author offered is really sarcastic and a little bit ridiculous.

3. The English drink tea in almost anytime.

4. The English love to talk about the weather anytime and anyplace.

5. The English love to queue. They even queue when there is only one person queuing.

6. The Englisg are hypocrites.

Though the author described English in a more dramatic way, something he wrote must be worth of believing.

Next time I go to England. I will observe English's behaviors carefully and find out which of them are true.

A. Which ones of these methods are you already using? How do they work out for you? How's your experience compare with what Ruggiero (the author of the book) has to recommend?

1.Plan my days:

I plan my days every morning. And it's really helpful for me when I have too many things to do in one day. However, sometimes I forget to make a plan. Then things go wrong.

The method I use to plan my days are a little different from the author's. Every day, I bring a sheet of paper with me. The content of the sheet of paper includs the things I need to do today and something which happen today and I sould do it in the future. So, every mornig, I have to do two thing. First, I put the things I shoud to do in the future on yesterday sheet of paper in the right date in my schedule book. Then, look up the schedule book to see what I sould do today. With the method, I can not only be more efficient but also be clearer about what I shoud do today.

2.Read for understanding:

Actually, I 've already known the strategy from a book. However, read for understanding confuses me sometimes. When I try to catch the important meaning, I lose some details. Often, I miss too many details. So, I think I shoud make a balance between grasping main idea and understanding the whole thing.

B. Which ones looks interesting and promising enough that you are going to try out? What's your plan?

1.Tackle unpleasant tasks immediately:

I tend to procrastinate when a task is unpleasant. I hope I will put unpleasant tasks high on my list of priorities next time so I won't do it hastily again.

2.Refuse to tolerate confusion:

In the strategy, it said, " if you encounter a confusing passage, don't just hope that passing of time will clarify its meaning. Instead, reread the passage ALOUD and slowly, listening to the words. " This stratage reall interests me. My brain always goes blank when I ' m confused about the passage. And I always do nothing except letting the time passing. The way suggests me that I shoud be more active and read aloud. I will try..

C.Questions about these methods?

1. I know that choosing a suitable place is important, but I found it hard to find a suitable place to study. Is my mind too easily-disrupted? What sould I do?

2. When I try some stratagies like Read for understanding or Keep a journal, I always spend too much time. How can I manage my time better?

It is almest at the end of the story.. So there are some transitions of the story. First, after Riley plays the guitar in front of his father, Jack, she has a long talk with him. Jack compliments her on her singing and presents his love to her. Riley responds by saying " I love you, too, Dad. " It' her first time saying those words. The relationship between them has some subtle changes.

Second, Dean finally realizes that he wants to fix up his bad relationship with his parents. He accpets Jack. And he finally accept his mother, April. April 's eyes filled with tears when Dean introduces her as his mother instead of his housekeeper. Final, it comes to the relationship between Dean and Blue. After a sex game, Blue's pleasure of their encounter was gone. She tells Dean that she is going to leave. She thinks that Dean will be just like those men who gave her up and let her go.

However, she doesn't succeed in leaving because Nita arrests her by accusing her of stealing her necklace. Her jail cell had proven to think about her life. And she finally realizes how much she loves Dean and she decides to face it instead of going away her love like she used to . Dean is happy to get his soul mate back again.. And they get married at the end.

In the whole book, the relationship among Dean, Riley,Jack and April moves me the most. It's a comfort as they finally accpet one another and encourage one another. It makes me recall my family as well. I think I shoud cherish the love my family give me more.

Recently, there are mid-term exams. When I was preparing those big exams, I did't do my extensive reading. However, I think that reading shoud be done every day. So I have to learn how to make a more appropriate schedule on my study. So I won't miss something which I shoud do every day.

Though I still haven't finished the book this time.I've understood the book more well than last time.

The story goes on.Blue's characteristic starts to attract Dean. Dean finds that Blue is not like those normal girls he met before.

She doesn't have a crush on him.In fact,she pretends not to.However,the more coldly she reacts to him,the more strongly he is attractive to her.

Blue plays a game with him beacouse she doesn't have money.One day,Dean takes her to his house.There,She finds out how Dean's life could be so complicated.April,who acts as his housekeeper,is his mom.More surprisingly,the famous rock singer,Jack, who Blue adores, is Dean's father.

His parents seperated when he was little.And his parents didn't care about him much which caused him a lot of pain.So,he knew how to strive for himself .It's not the end.A girl ,called Riley appears.She is Dean's sister with different mother.Riley mon died.And she feels lonely though she has other relatives.So she tries to find his bother,Dean, as the last person who may love her wholehartedly.However,Dean thinks of Riley as a trouble at first.The complicated relationship develop in a strange way.And Blue can't even be a outsider.She is also involved.It makes all the things more difficult for Blue to earn money. In the reading,the interaction between Riley and Dean moved me.Dean also had a miserable childhood.So he knows how Riley feels.He accepts her gradully.And he tells her she has to strive for herself and stands up on her own feet.It's a touching scene.

In the first week,it was hard for me to read every day and write a reading journal.But I am used to it now.I feels that I started to enjoy my reading.Reading English books have become a entertainment when I am tired of my textbooks.And when I wrote a reading journal this time,all the things came out of my mind. But I have a question:I didn't look up words when I ddid my extensive reading.Then,should I look them up regulary after I finish several chapters or just wait until I see those words in other articles?

It is a love story .A man,Dean,is a famous football player.But he dislocated his shoulder accidently so he might not play football as well as he was before.A woman,Blue ,is a painter. She was betrayed by his boyfriend .Worst of all,her
bank account was all withdrawn by her mother.The two meet each other,rely
on each other and develop a subtle relationshop .

Though I have not finished the book yet, I do learn something . First,I learn how native speakers speak in their real life through theconversation.In the book,interesting things always happen when they are together.Reading their conversation is great fun.Also,those miserable and interesting things happen to Dean and Blue make me reflect on my life and figure out some solutions.

I read the book at random instead of regularly .However.I found it uneffective.Therefore,I decided to push myself to read it in certain time.Also ,there are too many pages in the book which cause me some pressure .The next time I shoud choose a book which is not only appealing but also thiner.Solving these problems,I believe I could enjoy my reading more comfortable next time.
