The main character, Margaret, is a girl who works in the book store. She likes to read and have written some biographies. Therefore, a famous novelists named Vida Winter asked her to write a biography for her. As Vida Winter unfolds her story, Magret found that her story is complex but is really fascinating. One of the point In the book is that twins are inseparable and can always feel each other. Though I don't have a twin sister,it reminds me how precious the link between sisters and brothers is. Even we are separeted in different place, the ralationship among loved ones is inalienable! The tiltle of the last chapter is "opening" which really brings me some ideas. The end of a story is a beginning of anothor story. Life is composed of a series of story, some may disappoint us whie some bring us pleasure. However, due to the team games have not been done, I have no enough time to finish the book, which was planned. I think I can progress more after games since I will have more time.

Since both of them wouldn't mind marrying each other, the then "decided" to get married.Then the next morning, she told Samantha the "big news with Big." For a woman who didn't believe in marriage, she gave an indifferent response. But few minutes later, Samantha called back. She explained that she was too surprise to say anything. They then share tje happiness about it. There was no cliched romantic kneeling on one knee. It was just two grownups making a decision about spending their lives together. It was rational, but special at the same time. And I think it was the specialty that made the whole thing a little bit more romantic. It's mature and wise of the two grownups to do so. However, I think the interlude of the auction part seems to mean something. Maybe something's gonna happened, ( just like novels, TV or movies does usually) I hope there's gonna be a happy ending.

This is a fantasy novel. The background of this story is happened in a hidden island where lives Aunt Etta, Aunt Coral, and Aunt Myrtle. They need to care other creatures who live on this island, but the adults can't be trust, so they get an idea that they can kidnap children who can keep secret. What an interesting thing is: some kids are planned to be kidnapped.

They leave the island to search for proper children. The first child called Minette, who was ten years old. Her parents were divorced, so she need to made journeys usually between London and Edinburgh where her dad and mom live. Etta is her aunt, and she prepare to kidnap Minette on the train by using sandwiches she made.

Aunt Coral is going to kidnap Hubert-Henry Mountjoy from his grandparents' London house. In the kidnapping process, the boy always look at her in an unfriendly expression.

Although I only read to chapter 2, it's story is very interesting that I am very happy I find a book I like to read so much.

The four chapters I read were: Lavender, The Weekly Test, The first Miracle and The Second Miracle.

Lavender is one of Matilda's friends who also has a scheming mind. In the chapter Lavender, she made a mischievous trick on the headmistress. She put a newt into Mrs. Trunchball's jug. And at next chapter, Mrs. Trunchball came to Mrs. Honey' class to check the effect of teaching. The headmistress use violent ways to teach. Whenever students say wrong answers, she would do corporal punishment on them such as standing in the corner on one leg with face to the wall. Although Mrs. Honey had tried to stop her, she still adhered obstinately to error.

After humiliating the students, Mrs. Trunchball finally decided to drink water to release her throat. She quickly scared of the newt in the jug. As a matter of course, she flew into a rage and she thought it must done by Matilda because Matilda's dad had spoke ill of his daughter to her. No matter what Matilda explained, the headmistress didn't want to hear about it. Matilda was so angry that a miracle happened. She made the glass of water spilling all over Miss Trunchball with her eyes! At the beginning she didn't believe it, either. She thought that she must discuss with grow-ups about this extraordinary thing then she found Miss Honey.

The Second Miracle is talking about the relationship between Matilda and Miss Honey. Miss Honey chose to believe Matilda's power and then they were even closer to each other. It is happy to see that such an attractive girl who was found out one person that really cherished her.

that I thought it must be a moving book. Although after I read, the story is not as that touch me deeply in my heart as I

guessed. But I still like this story very much because it carefully described about affection likes friendship and love. It

makes me felt very touching. It made us realize that everyone have their unique talent and skill. In the modern globe

We have to respect all kinds of people. Everyone have their drawback. But it is impossible to be a wonderful person ,

we should try to overcome the obstacle and don't be frustrated. We should look at bright side because every skill and

everyone have their own meaning in the society!

The boys in the class 4c were the worst students at school. They could not even write or read well. Once, they were asked by Dr. Felthams to do an assignment, and the subjects of the assignment were Food, Housework, Shopping, and Children. The boys must pick one of them and perform it. Finally, they picked "Children."

What's " Children"? The boys must take care of the flour babies. There were three kilograms of flour in each bag, and they were called "flour babies." The boys should look after their flour babies for three weeks and write about what have happened each day in a Baby Book. Most students gave up at last. But a boy called Simon Martin did well at this assignment. Actually, Simon's father left him when he was a child. He didn't understand why his father left him until he did this assignment.

Parents play the most important role in children's life. From young to old, parents always stand by us. They don't complain a bit even. I have a happy family, and I appreciate my parents much. But there are still many tragic families in the world. A lot of problems in our modern society are from families without love. Parents should be responsible for their children but children should also show respect and love their parents.

This is my first time to read English children's book. Although it's much easier to read and some pictures are in it, and I still think that reading is sometimes much fun when you enjoy it. I had a lot of fun in reading children's books. However, to challenge my reading ability, I will choose a more challenging book to enjoy at the next book.

Mr. and Mrs., DE Winter and Favell went to London to visit Dr. Baker, and knew that Rebecca had gotten a serious disease, which became the motivation that led to Rebecca's suicide, though she was actually killed by Maxim. 　　　There`s some mysterious elements in the story, which attracts me so much. The reason why I am pretty fond of this book is that it contains of many novel perspectives. For example, it explains what do schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have in common, why drug dealers still live with their mom and so on. I started by the part that explores why and how schoolteachers cheat. Since I read this book, I've changed my original thinking into multiple one. The result of this part is really astonishing. On behalf of the conventional wisdom, schoolteachers are considered to be honest people. However, schoolteachers have their dilemma. According to No Child Left Behind law, twenty states in U.S. reward individual schools for good test scores and dramatic improvement. As a result, some of schoolteachers played tricks to get the bonus. In one of the data provided by authors, we could see what teachers have done to add the average scores of the class by students' score strings. Schoolteachers filled the correct answers in the string of blanks. It's hard to distinguish from non-cheated ones by naked eyes. So, it was easy to pass investigations. That's why schoolteachers do it over and over again. Everything has its hidden side. I never believed teachers would cheat for bonus until I read this book. "Cheating is a primordial economic act: getting more for less." the author said. From all works of life, cheating is hard to avoid because of desire. Even schoolteachers have no exception. Above all, Freakonomic inspire my multiple aspects of my everyday life. By this book, I learn how to explore things out of the original thinking. In this way, I'm able to conclude different results. The story was happened in Copenhagen , the third year that the Nazis occupied Denmark. Annemarie, a ten-year-old girl need to protect her Jews friend, Ellen, from being captured by the Nazis. Annemarie and her family use their witness to help the Rosens. In the story, Annemarie was very brave and her bravery sent her best friend to a safe place. When the war ended, Annemarie held the Star of David, the necklace that Ellen left her, in her hands. She was looking forward for Ellen.

In the story we can see the friendship between the two little girls. The kids are innocent, but they have to live under the panic of war. We can see the cruel of the Nazis. When I read this book, it always reminds me a movie, Schindler's List. The Nazis did a lot of brutal and inhuman acts on Jews. There's no difference barbarian and their acts. But in this book, I know that not all the Nazis are bad, many of them were force to invade other countries. They had their families and they wanted to go back to Germany.

This time, I still cannot have an English reading as a routine. I gave myself an excuse, I'm a little busy. I knew I didn't use my time well. Perhaps I have to arrange a regular time to read or set up goals everyday and always a make a check before I go to bed.

Moby Dick was described as a terrible monster. It hurt people, killed people and left. It was every whale-killer's biggest enemy. Those who had ever planed to killed it all failed. However, I don't think Moby Dick did something wrong. People had killed countless whales at that time, for their wealth. Whales were killed because of the blubber(whale's oil), which was very valuable. Humans have the right to live on the world and whales have the same right, too. I think this book is very special, because the story is told by a horse. The book was called Black Beauty, because of the horse's name. He is a well-tempered and handsome horse. He was raised up by Grey when he was young. Grey was a good master and treated him well. Black Beauty's mother told him "Always be good so people will love you. " Then, he left his first home to work for Mr.Gordon. He also met new friends, Merrylegs and Ginger there. Ginger told him how her old master treated her. He reined her far tighter just to keep her head up and to make her look more fashionable. I thought that was cruel and human should treasure all the animals. The most impressive part in the pages I have read is Black Beauty saved his master's life. His master said "God made men so that they could find things out for themselves; but he made animals so that they could feel things, without thinking. In this way they have often saved men's lives." Continuing with the story last week, Nanny, the nanny in Mrs. X.'s house, finally became friends with the naughty little boy Grayer. After handling the relationship problem with Grayer, Nanny thought her work would be easier. On the contrary, more and more problems kept popping up. Mr. and Mrs.X always quarrel about little things that made the atmosphere quite nervous at home. To Nanny's surprise, she found out that Mr. X was having extramarital relations with his colleague! She was facing the dilemma of telling Mrs.X or not. Another problem is that she was in love with Mrs.X's neighbor, the boy who she calls him "Harvard Hottie", but due to the rules she was not allowed to have a boyfriend while being a nanny. The other problem, also the most significant one is Nanny's mother is coming to New York to visit her and she lied to her mother that she was working in a business company. All these problems were driving her crazy!

After deep thinking, she wondered if she was really suitable for this job. Maybe she wasn't that suitable, but because she was the only person Grayer could relied on, she decided to stay. To let Grayer happy, she broke many house rules, not knowing there were Nanny cameras watching her. When Mrs.X found out, she was fired... She feeled released, but sorry to Grayer.

She expressed her madness to Mrs.X by recording a video, telling Mrs.X she should take care of her own children instead of engaging parties everyday and her house rules would not let Grayer have a happy childhood. Mrs.X seemed to be touched by her words. She wrote a letter to thank Nanny for letting her realize the importance of family relationship. She devorced with her husband and there were no more nannies for Grayer anymore, because Mrs.X decided to raise him up by herslf. On the other hand, Nanny found another job she really liked. On the conclusion, both of them began a whole new happy life.

This story tells us money is not omnipotent. Maybe we are not nobles, but we can still have a happy life. We can have more time with our parents and feel love from them. We don't have to observe so many rules which we just need to be ourselves. After reading, I think it is not necessary for us to admire the upper classes, because being rich doesn't mean there will be no problems. However, maybe more. I think being an ordinary people is more comfortable the the rich, so we should cherish the love we have now.

This time I read the chapter about the girls' cousin, Mr. Collins, made Elizabeth an offer of marriage. Mr. Collins wanted to marry one of his cousins since he thought it is the best way to "compensate" the Bennets after he inherit all the property from Mr. Bennet. Although Mr. Collins had confidence on success, he was refused by Elizabeth. He was confused by the refusal, because in his opinions his job and the money he earns were alluring. However, he found another woman who was patient enough to live with him and made another proposal within a week. He decided to marry Elizabeth good friend, Miss Lucas.

In the story we can see how ridiculous Mr. Collins was. He was so proud and self-righteous that he could realize how rude and odd he was. That's why he could never understand how come Elizabeth rejected him.

I didn't read much in November because times seemed filled by exams and works. from this I understand how much I should work out on planning schedules.

This week I have read a chapter of the book. This time the author is talking about the coming of the summer holidays. His grandma share her childhood with the author and told him a lot of things she had done with her brother during the holidays. Being interested in the place where grandma was talking about, they decided to enjoy their holidays right there.
However, his grandma got pneumonia,which resulted in the advice gave from the doctor that she could not go so far until she got better. Because of what the doctor said, they changed their plan and enjoyed their holidays in a closer place. One day,to the author's surprise, his grandme gave him a present of two white mice. He likes them very much.
After arriving the hotel, they got some problem because of the special present. The manager in the hotel forbade him from taking out the mice from the cage. The mice couldn't be trained inside the cage, so he seek for a empty room prevent them form being seen by tje manager and his staff.However, when he hide bahind the back of the empty room, he saw a crowd of women walked in,all had hats on their heads.
I didn't read very hard during recent two weeks. I have some problem. I find that I have less interest on this book and I couldn't change my lack of tje habit of reading. I couldn't find the way for myself to enjoy what I read very much.I don't know where is the point I have to catch.Gradually, I feel boring and want to change another book to read. But can I really finish one book if I change another one? I don't know. How can I do to solve this kind of problem?

"The Goalkeeper's Revenue" tells a story about Sim Dalt, an extraordinary goalkeeper. He helped his team to the final of the Mayor's cup. But he couldn't play in it because he was having difficulty in his school. He was fired by the team's captain, Bob. Since then, Sim had made up his mind to take revenge on him one day. He then found an interesting job - a goalkeeper at the Amusement Arcade and became the owner of it after a few years while Bob became a famous football player. Sim became very famous after Bob lose the football game to him and be asked to be the director of the football culb of Sim and fired Bob. The second story "Seven Oranges" is about Joe who stole seventeen oranges from the docks and was caught by a policeman. The policeman locked him in a hut and went to bring another policeman as a witeness. While he left the hut, Joe thought up an idea: he decided to eat all of the oranges include the pips and the peel so that there would not have any evidence. He did that and didn't have to go to prison but end up feeling sick. "A Bit of Bread and Jam" is a story about a lucky boy, Billy. One day, he did some shopping for Mrs.Hoskey and got a jam sandwich but Mr.Hoskey told him never eat them. The boys decided to fish carp which is difficult to catch. Billy took the sandwich as the bait and caught many carp. When they went home, they saw an ambulance outside Billy's home. His mother and the police were worried about him because the sandwich was poisoned. It was very lucky of he that he haven't eat it. "A Real Good Smile" is also a story about Billy. He left school at the age of fourteen. He wanted an ordinary job in a mill while his parents wanted he to work in the locomotive shed. Alf tought him what to do to make Mr.Bidwell, the boss of the locomotive shed like him. He must keep his hands out of pockets; he must stand up straight like a soldier; he must speak in a loud, clear voice. He practiced over and over again, but at the time he saw the boss, he forgot everything. The boss shouted at him and he said that he don't want a boss like him. Superisingly, he he got the job to work at locomotive shed because of his honesty. The last story is "Maggie's First Reader". Maggie was the best housewife in her street and she went to church with a prayer-book, but she couldn't read a word. One day Father O'Flaherty visited her family and asked his son to teach her to read. After she could read, she immersed in reading all day long, and even failed to do the housework. One day, she stopped reading because she was going to write a book herself. Her husband was beset about it. I can learn how to write a complete story in simple words and since each of the story is short, I can finish the stories without interrupted. But, I think I still wants to try some longer stories next time to find which of the type I would like most. This time I read the book in the morning before going to school in case that I end up read nothing on the day. I think it's a good way for me. 49777010林琦鎮 Reading journal 11/21~12/04 Book: Brind and the Dogs of War Author: Christopher Russell Illustrator: No Publishing Company: Penguin Group (Puffin) Year of Publishing: 2005 Word Level: Unidentified Number of Pages: 198 Finally, I have finished the book with such a great effort. The content of the story is really different from its title since it concerned with the wars between humans rather than dogs (dogs are only subordinate roles). (Please refer to RJ3 for the former part of the story.) When the girl recognized it was her father's brooch, Brind's master also recognized him but called him as a traitor. Maybe that's because he ran away from the battlefield even though he was actually trying to save his mastiff. The story turned out that Brind found his mastiff, and through a lot of tribulations (murder, conflagration, shipwreck) and the instigation of one disloyal servant, they went back to their hometown black and blue, but reunited and lived happily ever after. "Be nice but alert." The story provoked my awareness of being cautious, and taught me that the one you most acquainted with may be the biggest enemy. I also honored Brind's master that even though Brind was only a servant to him, he treated him whole-heartedly. Surviving in a world full of wars is really not easy. It required strength, wisdom, and friends, especially the latter. I love the book because it emphasized much on the importance of friendship. After reading two books, I really have questions about names used in the books. These books contain different kinds of names from various languages, and many vocabularies that are unrecorded in English-Chinese dictionaries. Where can I look them up? This time, I think I am more effective than ever since I read 124 pages. It really took me a lot of time to finish reading, but I am filled with joy. I got sense of accomplishment by completing such a task (though sometimes I feel tired of keeping reading). I am going to share the book to my friend who loves to research on war topics instead of my aunt since the part of dogs are too rare. (I intended to introduce it to my aunt before because she loves dogs very much.) My next book has not decided yet, but I think a book relates to detective and murder or supernatural may invoke my interest most. A story that narrates realistic incidents is not what I like.

I have finished reading this novel this week. Wow, I really have to say this is a great novel! Although I have read this novel in Chinese before, reading it again is also a very interesting thing.

It is very hard for anyone of us to forgive someone that really hurts you deeply. However, the kind Dr. Manette, who had been held in the terrible Bastille prison for many years, had forgiven the family he hated so much. How could he be so kind? If that happened to me, I think I can't just let it go and may think about taking revenge. It is too hard to learn to forgive someone although many people think they do have the ability. When I have finished reading the novel, I realized it was the strong love that makes the hatred disappeared. In addition, I realized that even it was very tough to do that, we should try because we can be much bigger ,stronger and wiser after we went through this kind of situation. Forgiveness is a profound lesson and we might spend our whole life to master.

The French Revolution is a heart-breaking war although the people were forced to fight. Many people died whether they are evil or not, many family were broken and many people became wild and crazy-they killed people because they wanted to. I hope the revolution will never come back and this kind of event will never happen in this world ever again.

The story details a military occupation of a small town in Northern Europe by the army of an unnamed nation at war with England and Russia. It has been translated into many languages across the world. It was even made into a movie starring Cedric Hardwicke, Henry Travers and Lee J. Cobb in 1943 and it was also adapted into a play by the same name. In this story's beginning, the invaders arrived in town and the people were frightened. Nobody expected them. They soon killed local soldiers and took the town. Their goal is to control the coal mine and organize increased production and exportation of coal. The peace began to break up when a miner, who was a nice man in the town, killed one of the invader's officers with his pick because he forced him to work. They shot him and the town's people began to fight against them. We can view this story in two sides. One is the invaders and the other is the town's people. The people was stunned, confused and nothing they could do. Soon, their anger replaced their fear and a ragged resistance movement formed. The invader's commander tried to maintain peace without fights and troubles but failed. He followed orders from above and imposed repressive measures to keep the production going. In the end, all semblance of harmony is ended. The occupiers feel isolated and surrounded by hate. Coal production grinds to a halt due mostly to the fact that allied planes have been dropping dynamites for the people to use to sabotage railroads, food supplies, power sources, and the mine itself. The townspeople would rather starve and be killed than cooperate with the invaders. When I began to read this book, I guessed that the events took place in France or England during world war two, because I've studied their history about the revolutions in eighteen century. I knew what it is all about when I search it online. I like this book because it told me the spirit of the people： never give up. I think it's precious and a life philosophy.
