A.     Being welled-prepared to get married with Monica, Chandler made a reservation at a luxurious restaurant for his proposal.  Unfortunately, they bumped into Richard, who had fallen in love with Monica before.  So, Chandler's plan failed.  He got to pretend that he didn't care about getting marriage.  Worse, Richard showed up again to declare that he still loved Monica.  Which one should be chosen, A straight or a man talking about "pig-sex"?  Ultimately, Monica took initiative for the proposal toward Chandler.  This time, Chandler won't let her go again.

 Apart from Monica and Chandler, everyone started to think about their next steps.  In addition to his boat won from the "price-guess", Joey fought Ross for his backup in that Phoebe was both their backup.  Ross had just ended up his relation with Lizzi because she was too young to be the one he would marry.  Finally, they reached the consensus that Rachael would be Ross's backup and Phoebe would be Joey's.  What a happy ending!

B.                 Phoebe was my favorite character.  She was, of course, beautiful and thoughtful.  She was the one who always accompanied friends, such as helping Chandler to pick up the ring.  Apparently, the words she said sometimes didn't make sense but they're interesting and creative.  That's why I like her most.  Joey, a lazy man, who fooled around all days.  I don't like the ways he behave at all.  So, I like him the least.  

C.                 It is a brilliant tool!  Because all characters' pronunciations were good and clear, allowing me for correctly understand what they said.  Moreover, there are no difficult vocabularies in "Friends".  Instead, they used simple words to express stories.  After watching "Friends", my listening comprehension did improve.

Freakonomic Author: Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner Publisher: Harpertorch Year of Publishing:2006 Pages: 207 "Drug Dealers Still Live With Their Mom" is the chapter I interested most in this book. When I saw the title, I was confused. In the conventional wisdom, drug dealers are always the ones who abandoned their families. So, why the author said that drug dealers still live with their mom? This question is what I want to discuss in my last journal. In the early 1980s, on the shore of Lake Michigan, a bloody turf war was ready to start. Everything in that district was declining, most of the habitants escaped from there to keep themselves in safety. However, there was one phenomenon that reversely prevailed—gangs. Gangs were so popular that lots of young men gave up their schoolwork; instead, they participated in this dangerous activity. To my surprise, gangs' activity was just like a business. They traded in drugs and munitions which were profitable but risky. One of the perfectly-organized gangs, dominated by an EMBA graduates called J.T, was the most influential gang at that time. J.T applied the accounting system in its operation, such as journals, ledgers and financial statements. With these documents, I found out that J.T did make a big fortune by gangs' transactions. Nonetheless, though they are wealth enough, drug dealers still live with their mom. That is because the ones who really possessed a large amount of money were few top leaders. The wages the rest of gangs gained were only＄1,000 less than the top leaders. No wonder they constantly went home! This topic has a hidden question. That is, if drug dealers didn't earn adequately to make their both ends meet, what would they do? The bloody street war then began. It was because the risks they had to take were more dangerous than before, the top leaders—drug dealers' boss-- would pay them more. Day by day, the district never ceased to fight. It was until a law enacted by federal government had been enforced that the district gradually returned to peace. Although these events were occurred in 1980s and the author only wanted to deliver his interesting discoveries, it struck me as a sad feeling. Bad education, bad economy and bad environment had interrupted many teenagers at my age to pursue their dream. Today, with all mankind's effort, I have access to good education and environment. Feeling contented to what everyone else gave to me, I expect myself to be stronger so that I can contribute to the society someday. 49777020 FLAG 黃郁雰

They cheated to maintain rankings that affect every slice of their life. They would make deals to help one another. The one who has reached the ranking may intentionally lose the one who has one win short of the ranking's standard. Next time when the one fell behind the ranking, he would be help in the same way. However, when a swarm of journalists and TV cameras was around the wrestlers in competitions, the win percentages of ones who haven't been ranked come to surprising outcomes--- they dropped from 80 percent to 50 percent dramatically. In comparison with sumo wrestlers and teachers, the authors took a bagel vendor as an example. Every morning, the bagel vendor delivered some bagels and cash basket to a company's snack room and returned before lunch to pick up the money. This way is called "honor-system commerce scheme" which test the honesty of people. Indeed, some people stole from him, but the vast majority do not even without surveillance. These examples raised a question: could anyone refuse their temptation to do something they want if they knew none was witnessing? In my opinion, the answer is yes. Due to the sense of guilty, I'm afraid of disobeying my conscience. I confessed that sometimes I cheated for some reasons. But under most circumstances, I would choose to do things that I considered to be correct. The common between teachers and wrestlers is that they cheated when no one was watching over them. I believe that most of people did cheat in the same case. Nonetheless, I wholeheartedly believe in mankind's morality, just like the honest majority who paid for bagels. 49777020黃郁雰

The reason why I am pretty fond of this book is that it contains of many novel perspectives. For example, it explains what do schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have in common, why drug dealers still live with their mom and so on. I started by the part that explores why and how schoolteachers cheat. Since I read this book, I've changed my original thinking into multiple one. The result of this part is really astonishing. On behalf of the conventional wisdom, schoolteachers are considered to be honest people. However, schoolteachers have their dilemma. According to No Child Left Behind law, twenty states in U.S. reward individual schools for good test scores and dramatic improvement. As a result, some of schoolteachers played tricks to get the bonus. In one of the data provided by authors, we could see what teachers have done to add the average scores of the class by students' score strings. Schoolteachers filled the correct answers in the string of blanks. It's hard to distinguish from non-cheated ones by naked eyes. So, it was easy to pass investigations. That's why schoolteachers do it over and over again. Everything has its hidden side. I never believed teachers would cheat for bonus until I read this book. "Cheating is a primordial economic act: getting more for less." the author said. From all works of life, cheating is hard to avoid because of desire. Even schoolteachers have no exception. Above all, Freakonomic inspire my multiple aspects of my everyday life. By this book, I learn how to explore things out of the original thinking. In this way, I'm able to conclude different results. Sometimes, they are even better than initial ones. Freakonomic has indeed turned the way I think. I believe everyone who has read it would come to the same opinion. 49777020 黃郁雰

MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA Author: Arthur Golden Publishing company: First Vintage Mass-Market Edition Year of publishing:2005 Number of pages: 502 During two weeks, I've finished the rest of this book. Shortly after Sayuri became a great geisha and adopted the geisha house, Japan experienced Depression through World War 2. The Geisha district was forced to close so that every geisha had to do other jobs to make their both ends meet. In most likely cases, geisha inevitably end up taking entertaining American soldiers as their jobs. As for Sayuri, she was perfectly protected by a kimono tailor. In this miserable era, Sayuri took off the pride of a famous. "I am a peasant and not a geisha at all any longer." she told herself. Finally, World War 2 ended and Sayuri returned to the Geisha district. Now she was an ordinary woman without men paying attention to her but she was still beautiful. One day, Nobu, who had a great affection toward Sayuri, came along and asked Sayuri for help. He needed Sayuri to socialize with the Deputy Minister of Finance in America. This way could provide chance for Nobu and Chairman to expand their company. However, with the closer relationship with the minister, Sayuri suffered from the jealousy of Nobu badly. Accordingly, she elaborated a plan to break Nobu's heart. That is, to let Nobu spot that she was about to have sex with the minister. She asked her best friend-Pumpkin to bring Nobu on time. Unfortunately, to her surprise, the one who appeared in front of the door was her beloved Chairman. It was Pumpkin who was so envious of Sayuri's success that she couldn't help but disturbing the good things Sayuri had. Sayuri never saw Chairman and Nobu again. One day, after realizing the truth, Chairman came along and confessed. He told Sayuri that he loved her at the first time he met her. He was the man who always supported her during the process of becoming a geisha. Chairman arranged Mameha- Sayuri's sister in law to push her onto the stage and it did work out. They are made in heaven, loving each other so deeply. "Every step I have taken in my life since I was a child in Gion, I have taken in the hope of bringing myself closer to you." Sayuri said. Eventually, they got married and moved to New York. While reading this book, I enjoyed savoring subtle implications in Sayuri's conversation. They are significant and innovative. Furthermore, I could understand the transition in Japan resulted from the culture shock. Sayuri was tolerant of new surrounding and culture. So, through her perspective, I can realize each historic event with objective and multiple thinking. She was definitely an authentic reflection on that generation. "Whatever our struggles and triumphs, however we may suffer them, all too soon they bleed into a wash, just like watery ink on paper. " Sayuri said at the end of the book. Although I am too young to experience all the meanings contained in her words, I can understand her philosophy of her life. She was really a legendary woman. 49777020黃郁雰

49777020 FLAG 黃郁雰 As a learner, I've transformed some methods inclusive of planning my days, tackling unpleasant tasks immediately and refusing to tolerate confusion into habits. Different from the author, my plan is more elastic than his. I'm used to writing down the things I must do within the day ,and then accomplishing them at appropriate time. The appropriate time depend on the situations I face. If the thing is the most necessary to be finished at that time, I'll take it as priority. Tackling unpleasant tasks immediately allows me to work efficiently. Because of unpleasant reasons, I would finish these tasks as soon as possible. By this way, I absolutely improved my efficiency. In my opinion, refusing to tolerate confusion is a good method that we, students, should equip. This way prevents me from receiving misunderstanding as a result of tolerating confusion. It also enhances my perception. After reading this essay, I consider keeping a journal an excellent idea to carry out. By keeping a journal, I think I can absorb new information more than before. Due to the weak ability to memorize I have, keeping a journal indeed do me a favor during my learning process. Distraction is the most serious problem I have while reading. Although building a castle in the air is enjoyable, it makes my mind goes blank when I stop dreaming. However, I think the method the author offered is not explicit. Are there any concrete suggestions?

These chapters are the most compelling in this book, I thought. Sayuri had become more popular than before. She got the qualification to perform dancing in Kyoto house. After the performance, Sayuri became so famous that several pursuers started to woo her. This situation reminded her mother- and sister-in-law of a crucial event--bidding Sayuri's "mizuage". Mizuage was equal to hymen. Bidding mizuage was quite important in that the man who got mizuage was supposed to have affluent wealth and prestige. With the popularity, the price of Sayuri's mizuage was the highest than ever. To everyone's amazement, Sayuri's mother-in-law decided to adopt Sayuri and get down the geisha house to her. This astonishing decision cause Sayuri and her best friend, Pumpkin, broke up. Sayuri was pretty sorry about the consequence, but the only thing she could do was waiting for the proper to make amend. While I read this part, my feeling was complicated because of the complex relation amount the characters. The more popularity Sayuri had, the bigger struggles she faced. I was really glad to see Sayuri getting famous. However, with the limitation of geisha, she had to conform to her mother-and sister-in-law's orders. How miserable she was to have no freedom in making choices during her life time and how lucky I am to live in this world of freedom. 49777020黃郁雰

So far, I've read 22 chapters and will finish the rest of the book in a week or so. "Memoirs Of A Geisha" , a well-known novel, has been adapted for the motion picture and swept the world of Asian movies. This book is a real-life reflection and dictation of the geisha—Sayuri. From the miserable childhood to the successful geisha career, Sayuri elaborately dictated all astonishing and incomparable experiences she has encounter -ed in this book. Borned in a poor family with a mother suffering from bone cancer, her father couldn't afford to the large amount of expenses. As a result, he exchanged his daughters for money and sent Sayuri and her sister to the geisha houses in Kyoto respectively. Sayuri once tried to run away with her sister but she failed. Her failure led to the confinement for her to become a geisha. However, the chairman came along and found the potential of being a geisha within Sayuri. He pushed Sayuri onto the stage secretly. With the impressive beauty and the unique blue-gray eyes, she had become more and more popular in the district. Namely, more and more problems emerged. She had to deal with the battle with her best friend—Pumpkin, a geisha in Sayuri's geisha house. It's a profound hurt in her psyche. Moreover, she had to do many things she didn't want to do at all to please her clients. Above all, she was compelled to accept the man she didn't love as her donna —a man possessing privilege to live with her. Her true love was the chairman and she tried to approach him by all means. Nonetheless, she could only gaze at him in distance and keep the secret on and on.(to be continued) The main reason why I bought this book was that I was touched by it after I saw the movie and I eagerly wanted to know the detail. I regard Sayuri as a legend, for she overcoming lots of conflicts with her strong mind, faith and wisdom. She was so eloquent that every time I read her words, I felt amazing in that she could cope with any problems through her words. No wonder she was impressive! However, by reading her story, I found it difficult to avoid misunderstandings resulting from fame. The more famous you are, the more possible to be misconceived. According to this book, Sayuri fell victim to misunderstanding in many situations. Nevertheless, it's her intelligence and pure spirit that solved problems. It is exactly what I have to learn in my life time. There are many new vocabularies in this book. When I read the word I didn't understand, I just ignored it. I would gradually understand the word by repeatedly reading it in later parts. Furthermore, I always imagined the scene of the story. This way is pretty interesting. By my own imagination, I can create the world from other prospective. It is pretty funny!
