Chandler has planned to proposed to Monica in a restaurant. Everything gone with the plan that day until Richard, Monica's ex-boyfriend, surprisingly
showed up at the same restaurant.  Since Chandler was embarrassed to propose when Richard was at present, the plan had to change.  For not making Monica suspect that Chandler was going to propose, this must be a big surprise, Chandler pretended he's a guy who will never want to get married. Meanwhile, Richard told Monica the he still loved her and he wanted to marry her.  Oops, this hard situation seemed to be a dilemma to Monica. Facing this emergency, Joey decided to tell Monica everything about the plan and Chandler was going to marry her for fear that Monica will marry Richard! After knowing the fact, Monica waited Chandler to get home in the living room full of romantic candles. It's also a surprise to Chandler.  And there, they both kneel down, which was kind of funny, and he proposed to her.

I like Rachel the most cause she always appears to be clever but never lacks the sense of humor.  The least may be Ross. As to the reason, I actually don't know why. Or maybe because he dated with a teenage girl made me feel awkward, haha.

We usually learn English in a traditional way; which is, by using a text book.  It's not bad if we want to learn fundamental usage of the language. But in our daily life, in our conversation with a foreigner there are some words or expression that we may not be able to learn from textbook.  By watching "Friends" or any other English series or movies, we can not only asquire some fashionable expressions but enhance our interest in English.

Book title: Gossip Girl #1: A Novel

Author: Cecily Von Ziegesar

Publishing company: Little Brown & Co

Year of publishing: 2002

Pages: 208

Gossip Girl is about a group of kids living in New York. These kids go to either an all girls or all boys private school, live in huge fancy apartment buildings, have the most expensive clothes and can do pretty much whatever they want whenever they want. There are two best friends, Blair and Serena and one year Serena goes away to boarding school. One summer Serena comes back unexpectedly from boarding school and she quikly finds out that everything isn't the same as it used to be. Blair had made new best friends, Isabel and Kati, and everyone spreads rumors that she was kicked out of boarding school for bad behavior. The only person that doesn't act strange around Serena is Nate, Blairs boyfriend. Blair gets jealous and thinks that Serena will try to steal Nate away from her so she befriends Serena and gets everyone else to not talk to her. Serena doesn't get invited to the coolest parties anymore and finds herself alone watching TV on Friday nights. In the end, Serena realizes she doesn't need her "cool" friends to be happy and goes and makes new friends. She and Blair make up, they aren't friends anymore but Blair stops being mean to Serena, and Nate tells Serena he can't be friends with her anymore because of Blair.

Gossip Girl is a book that brings the real life drama of teenagers into a story. The best part about this book is that it is in teenager's point of view, showing every emotion that they go through. It is a book that takes one problem, and turns it into everyone else's problem.

After three months, I finally finished reading this book. Here's what I got from it:

Each of us has no doubt had that one teacher that really meant a great deal to us, good or bad, for one reason or another.  Morrie Schwartz was the kind of guy who was less likely to ask you for a definition and more likely to ask you for a meaning.  He was less theory and more feeling.  His outlook on life was something recognized as special even before he developed a terminal disease. However, it wasn't until Morrie was diagnosed with Lou Gherig's disease that he achieved immortality.

This really is an amazing story of a teacher giving his final and greatest lesson of all.  Morrie stared death in the eye and refused to blink.  Rather than fear the inevitable he seized every day as though it were his last.  The result is a lesson that we all can take something from to make our own lives a bit more tolerable.  Morrie has lived one of those exemplary lives that everyone attempts to emulate but few succeed in doing so.

Aside from the importance of deeply-experienced relationships, forgiveness of others and self, and giving abundantly to others, Morrie suggests giving up of popular culture and materialism to create one's own culture based on ones meaningful values.

I believe that everyone should read this book.   Not only should just read it, but read it every few years to remind ourselves that life is not about the tangible "things".  I think we all get caught up in our everyday routine and forget to enjoy the simple things that life has to offer us.  Reading this book on occasion will snap us back to think in a very unselfish way and love what life has given us.

A.Which ones of these methods are you already using? How do they work out for you? How's your experience compare with what Ruggiero (the author of the book) has to recommend?

1.Plan my days: Actually, I alway plan my days in mind instead of in words. I think it will be better if I plan on papers, less I forget anything.
2.View frustrations as apportunities: I believe that frustrations enhance our abilities to solve problems and provide chances to think in another way.
3.Listen actively: It is true that I always feel sleepy in class if I am not taking notes simultaneously. But, I don't always achieve this point, honestly.
4.Refuse to tolerate confusion: I really don't like to save confusions for later to solve, neither would I tolerate confusions. But I faced some difficulties when putting it into practice. That is, it is hard to make a specific question or a concrete idea right after receiving information.
5.Choose athe right time, a suitable place and favorable conditions: I know for long that queit beats noisy, but not every time for me. I sometimes fell asleep if the place was too queit (such as library). How can I solve situation like this?

B.Which ones looks interesting and promising enough that you are going to try out? What's your plan?

1.Tackle unpleasant tasks immediately: Weren't it for my laziness and reluctance I wouldn't have to stay up all night just to rush through reports, right?
2.Clip away at big jobs: A big job is somehow equal to an unpleasant task! Besides dealing with it first, achieve it little by little every day sounds like a good way.
3.Take charge of my mind: The huge problem of my learning efficiency is all about concentration! I need to work hard on this one indeed.
4.Capture insights: Have countless of thoughts but never capture then when they come to mind. Then those original innovative ideas would be worthless, I guess. So the next time it pops out, dash it down!

C.We may all know methods like these already. So, I think the major big thing would be about persistence and constantcy. Did the author mention anthing about this in the book? Or do you, dear professor, have some suggestion?

" How much time do I spend in one day to grieve or to mourn? " I ask myself. Too much, maybe. When could we cast off all those sadness that keep us hanging back in lives? Like Morrie said, "I mourn in the mornings. I mourn what I've lost. I mourn the slow, insidious way in which I'm dying. But then I stop mourning." "I give myself a good cry if I need it. But I concentrate on all the good things still in my life." Shed a few tears, and that's all. How useful it would be to put a daily limit on self-pity? I think we sould all keep this philosophy in mind. Just a few tearful minutes, then on with the day.

I apologize for not handing in the second reading journal last week due to being occupied by the mid-term.

I believe that many people have read this book, if not, you might have heard of it. It's talking about a man (Mitch Albom himself) who luckily got the chance to see his mentor in the college again, and took the final courses of him which lectures
on " how to live". Since the old professor, Morrie Schwartz, has been informed that he had been attacked by a mortal disease,
his viewpoint toward life changed.

I've read this book in chinese version at lease a year ago. I was inspired and benefited by the book a lot so I decided to reread it but this time in english.

About language learning & acquisition

1. Since we want to acquire this language naturally, will it be necessary to learn the grammar? I believe that as long as we read and use it more, we could discard the traditional way of grammar learning.
2. Practice makes perfect. I'm hoping that the whole class (or in groups) communicates in english so that we got more chances to improve our speaking capability.
