What's the terrifying thing could happen to one mankind? The dreadful Angoumois or Leviathan finally appeared? Being mute, blind, or paralyzed during the rest of life? They are all terrifying, but let's see what the situation was Richard Mathew, our hero of the book, been here.

At that night Richard helped a homeless girl, Door, who wasn't really homeless which she's not as lucky as to be. At that night, he broke his fiancée's heart. And at that night, he was involved in something he could never ever imagine. Before talking about what happened after that night, let's talk about Mr. Croup and Mr. Vamdemar first. There are three simple ways for the observant to tell them apart: first, Mr. Vamdamar is two and a half heads taller than Mr. Croup; second, Mr. Croup has eyes of a faded china blue, while Mr. Vamdamar's are brown; Mr. Croup likes words, while Mr. Vamdamar is always hungry. Also they look nothing the same. By the way, I don't think they are humans. So, where were we? That night? Forget about that night. It was a brad new day after that night after all.

Richard took a message to de' Carabas, who owed Door a favor, for Door. After they left Richard's apartment everything seemed to become normal again. Then Richard called Jessica for apologizing, but he soon figured that his phone call was cut off and he was totally late to work. He ran out to the street, trying to get a cab, but no cab seemed to see him; he ran down to the subway, but the electricity barrier just didn't take his ticket; With a bunch of swearing, Richard arrived his company on his foot. The guard didn't even take a look on him when Richard ran through him. "Gary, my god, you won't believed what the hell happened last night. Hey Gary! Are you listening to me? Gary!!" said Richard. "Hmm…I'm sorry I didn't notice you. So what can I help you?" said Gary. (I rewrite the conversation by memory) Till now, Richard thought it was a joke, and maybe it was Jessica's idea, but he soon found out it wasn't like that. He had been forgotten, unnoticed, and rejected by the world, his world. And he would soon find that his apartment had been sold by a young couple at the time after he came back there.

It's looked like Richard had never existed at the very first time in the world, he's "Neverwhere" now.

Richard, a normal human being as you and me, had a normal but potential job, a beautiful but annoying fiancée, and a small but comfortable apartment, with no habit and only interest: collecting troll dolls which Jessica, his fiancée, had convinced herself that it was a mark of endearing eccentricity. Both his parents passed away after he went working in London Above. His life is normal, normal and boring, until the night he met Door, a bleeding girl lying on the sidewalk. He picked the girl up and took her home with her fiancée, Jessica, stood on the side walk with tears in eyes. Somewhere in his head, a voice belonged to a normal Richard was telling him how ridiculous he was being, but Richard kept placing one foot in front of the other… After that, something changed in Richard's life, or we could say everything changed.

Door was a member of one talented family in London Under. There were six members of her family: her parents, two brothers, one sister, and herself, and they were all die except Door. Her brother, Arch, was floating in the pool with two clouds of blood behind him, one from the throat and one from the groin. Door's mother, Portia, was watering plant in conservatory with her young sister, Ingress. As Portia finished with each plant, Ingress would watered it again, Portia was laughing, until Mr. Croup pulled her hair back and cut her white throat from ear to ear. Her father, Portico, was dead, and we actually don't know how was it going, but we're sure that he is also dead totally. Now, Mr. Croup and Mr. Vamdemar were hunting for Door, and this is the way Richard met Door.

Homework #2王子瑾

Homework #2

1. "Study Efficiently" is the most important part during my whole school life. I'm a terribly picky guy, I won't be able to do anything if there's any thing ain't right. After a decade researching, I finally find my own way to let this ugly guy, me, study. First, my ability of temptation résistance is extremely awful, the condition becomes better resulting in the increasing age, but I still prefer doing my studying with no TV, computer, novel, and bed, the most dangerous thing in the weather like now. Second, studying place must be silence, not extremely but relatively, I can't sit with any noise, but music is ok, I brought my ipod with my every day, every time. Third, I better had a better dream last night, or I rather go back to bed to make a new one. I also used "Take charge of my mind", "Chip away at big jobs" , and "Tackle unpleasant tasks immediately" for details.

Here's my studying method right now: 1. Do not do it at home. I can cut off telephone, internet, TV cable and pack all my books into boxes, and I did it before, but I cannot throw my bed away, I can sleep all day long at home before the mid-tern examination and I haven't even opened my books. 2. Do it as many as possible in the class, keep mind clear, and force to write down everything teacher said when I feel sleepy. 3. Do it every day, make studying a habit, as natural as I brush my teeth before sleeping. 4. Do big part first, separate it to parts, make deadlines for each part.

2. I'm interesting in "Capture insights", I've tried several times before, but never success. I can feel speed of thinking fasten when I get insight, and my writhing, if I was luckily with paper and pen, couldn't even follow it. The fact is I usually can't figure out the thought I just had. I'm quite curios of the statement, I'll try once again. I plan to put a small notebook and a carry pen in my pocket, and again write down the detail of the idea at "the insight time" hoping that I'll be able to understand later.

3. I'm not sure about the effect of "Keep a journal". I think notes of class in quite enough, I take note of every class at every thing which I think it might be helpful or important, I also remixed with my own words, but just write down a copy. I don't think it helps to write a journal in addition.

Reading Journey #2王子瑾

Subject: Reading Journey #2 2008 10/24-10/31

The story takes place in London, a city once I was so eager to go. Time is passing, and the desire of going to London had also passed, not because of the London born British guy I met few years ago, (though he don't look like he was born in London but hell) but the passion I've once got just disappeared by some reasons you could not figure out. People would say time is the most powerful magician, it changes everything, but I don't think it's the main reason.

To me, it was a dream, though I was foolish and ignorant when I had it, it's still a dream, and it's a dream had never ever come true, this make it even more precious. The book reminds me of the dream, and the dream reminds me of the person I once was.

Now I'm thinking of my newest dream I've had. Will this one also be forgotten before I have the chance to make it come true or become to a totally different thing from the original one (Trust me, this often happens)? Which one is more pathetic and which one is better? Being forgotten or being rewritten? Am I talking about dreams or am I talking about living in the world? I can't tell.

People grow up with dreams and leave them away like old clothes they could not wear when they do grow up. I can almost feel the sorrow for those dreams, but still I don't feel anything about it, you can't really feel something for unreal things. I do feel something real: I can feel some parts of me died when every dream disappears. Another question: Am I real or am I also a dream? Hmm…I can't tell it again.

Let's talk about living. "Are people without dreaming still living or they are just being alive?" People said alpha, people said beta, and people said charlie. Who are the people? Charlie? Are you? I know I'm not and maybe you are not either. Who are they then?

I had dreams and I have dreams. Yes, I do. Do you?

Preface:

Before going, I should notice that I'm an extreme "Preface-hater", especially to those reveal almost all the details of the book. (For God's sake. Why don't you write your own book?) The best preface I suggested is down below. (By the way, the preface wrote by author itself is not concluded inside.)

"WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC, MARVELOUS, AND INCREDIBAL

It's a tale for the adults who have been lost in the city. Gaiman reminds people even minor things could make huge differences to your life. Keep hope, and read the book. This will take you someplace different."

About Language Learning & Acquisition

Dear Professor Tsao:

After reading the article, "About Language Learning & Acquisition", I do have several questions, but before that, I am going to do some introduction about me and the English.

I can still remember the question, "How do you feel about English", which was asked by one of my English teachers eight years ago, and the answer is still available now. "I have no feeling about English". For me, language is language, a tool to communicate with others. As I don't feel anything about my cell phone, I don't see any differences between them. (Maybe I do, but this is the kind of thing that you don't want to know about it)

"If there's a war, I will sharpen my sword for it, but for now, a fruit knife might be good enough." I can't even remember the last time I am studying in English, and I wonder if I ever did. The fact is that I'm keeping using it without any personal will involved, and this somehow makes me progress. So, here comes my problem:

First, I have a big trouble on writing English essays. I'm curious that it is because of my even worse Chinese writing or I'm just lack of practice. (Honestly, I nearly practice at all.) A fruit knife is good enough in most cases, but what if you got only a nail clipper. I have no idea how to turn a nail clipper to a fruit knife. (Forget about the sword, you don't need it in 21st century)

Second, it's seems that I kinda "forgot" the grammar thing; A junior high school student might know more grammar than I do, and I used to be good at it when I was a junior high school student. The more years I've been through, the less grammar I remember. Every time I write a sentence/paragraph/article, I spend more time to think "Is it OK for it? Dxxx, I really don't know."

There might be more questions, but I'm being tired of this. Remember, this is a part of the kind of things that you don't want to know about it. I think I'll just stop here. Have a good night.

Sincerely yours,

Tzu-chin Wang
