Charilie Bucket is a cute little boy. And he loves to eat chocolates very much. But it seems that his family is too poor to buy him a bar of chocolate. Only on his birthday, the whole family would save few pennies to buy a bar of chocolate as Charlie's birthday present.
Mr. Willy Wonka, who is a genius chocolate maker, owns the largest company of making chocolate in the world. He can make chewing gum that never loses its taste, and candy ballons that you can blow up to enormous sizes, and he can make marshmallow that taste of violets, and rich caramels that change colour every ten seconds as you suck them. Here something's strange, no one to be seen to walk into or got out from the factory but the factory is still working and make a lot of delicious chocolates. That's a mystery.
Now, Mr. Willy Wonka hides five golden tickets in five bars of chocolates. And the one who gets the ticket will be admitted to visit his enormous, fantastic, mysterious factory.
One day, Charlie found a one dollar bill half-buried in the snow. Charlie had been hungry for days, so he picked up the bill right away and rushed to the store to buy himself his favorite candy-chocolate. When Charlie finished wolfing a bar of chocolate, he still felt hungry. So he bought another one. As he tore off the wrapper, there came a flash of gold......
It was a GOLDEN TICKET!!

Once again, I choose the book which has been adapted into the motion pictures as my extracurricular reading. I've read over half of the book, and I can't wait to read it all!! The main reason why I choose it because when I first saw the movie, I was very impressed about the vivid characters, the bright, colourful scenes. It brought me a lot of visual shock that it's so hard to forget. And I started to wonder why the director can shoot such a colourful film just by reading the book. So, I think the book must be word-magic that can stir our imagination. This is exactly why I want to read this book, though I've seen the movie and I love it very much. I just want to use my imagination to create my own fantasy chocolate world!!

Pobby and Dingan

This time I have finished three chapters of the book . Those part is describing the

whole town is trying to help. Ten people came to there home and claimed that they

had found Pobby and Dingan . However ,They all failed . Kellyanne said "Stop

pretending ! " and "You haven't got Pobby and Dingan there . I hope that you would

stop making up such stupid stories about finding Pobby and Dingan . The whole town

is going crazy. " The girl thought that her friends died so that she asked her brother to

the mine looking place to find their bodies . As a result , the protagonist went out for

them . At first he was complaining about his strange sister but something happened .

In the dead silent forest , he unbelievably started to yell two imaginary people's name .

What's more , he found them trapped under the root of the drive and smelt dead …

In my opinion , this is the climax of the story . It's a big turning point . The protagonist

didn't believe that they're exist at first while he can see the imaginary friends now . It

indeed confused me with this big change . Whether the two friends are exist or not is

still a mystery . As it comes to the end of the story , there're many amazing things will

take place . I can't wait to see the ending of the story .

Indians named the young wolf "White Fang" because the fangs of this young wolf was white. When White Fang snarled at Indians, they uasually hit White Fang hard with a stick. Therefore, White Fang started to learn that these "gods" were happy or angry by looking at their faces. In Indians' camp、White Fang also learned how to kill other animals faster and more efficient in order to survive. After a few months, White Fang became a killer of animals and a cold wolf because nobody gave him love, even his god. Then, White Fang went south when his god moved to a south town named Fort Yukon to purchase and change something with the white gods. There, White Fang also killed many dogs because he hated animals nearing him. A white ugly man named Beauty Smith liked White Fang very much because he wanted to get money from White Fang fighting against other dogs. As a result, Beauty Smith uasually brought bottles of wine visting White Fang's god. At the end, White Fang's god had to sent White Fang for Beauty Smith to get bottles of wine because he was addicted to the wine. One day, White Fang had to fight with a big dog to win money for Beauty Smith. But this time, White Fang couldn't bite the dog because he was too big and his skin was so hard. White Fang was going to die when the big dog bit his neck. At the same time, a young white man and his friend used a gun to open the big dog's mouth and pulled White Fang out. Weedon Scott, the young white man, then paid Beauty Smith money and used a gun to frighten him and to ask him to leave the town. Scott and his friend Matt took White Fang to their small house. Scott uasully talked to White Fang quietly with meat on his hand. After a few days, Scott tried to put his hand on White Fang's head, and this time, White Fang didn't bite him. Then White Fang began to like the stroke from his "new god". One day, when Scott was leaving for California, he stroked White Fang and spoke to White Fang sadly. While Scott was on the boat, he listened to a noise. It was White Fang! Scott then decided to took White Fang away. When they arrrived, White Fang snarled at a woman angrily who gave Scott a hug. Scott taught White Fang that the woman was his mother. Then, White Fang wouldn't snarle at her. Near Scott's house, there was a chicken house. A day, White Fang killed some chickens and ate them. Scott was very angry and he took White Fang to the chicken house. Instead of hitting White Fang , Scott taught White Fang about chickens. Therefore, White Fang had been accustomed to the life with Scott. One day, Scott fell from the horse and got injured. He talked to White Fang to go home and ask for help. With White Fang's guide, the family found Scott quickly. In a cold winter night, White Fang woke up by smelling a strange man and hearing a small sound. He found the strange man and bit his neck. Later, there was a sound of a gun and the sound woke the whole family up. They saw a man dead and White Fang injured hard. They called a docter and saved White Fang at the end. Even thought White Fang was at the edge of dying , he ultimately recovered. I think it is a touching and full-of-love story. The author of this story used a wolf's life as a human's life. I think the most imporntant thing in our lives is the love with others. Only when we have love, do we lead a happy life. Love with others always makes us easy get along with people and have passion for the whole world. In the story, White Fang had love again from his new god who trusted him and taught him eveything. Hamlet, son of the king of Denmark, is summoned home for his father's funeral and his mother's wedding to his uncle. In a supernatural experience, he discovers that his uncle, whom he hates, murdered his father. Hamlet pretended being mad so that his mother didn't noticed what he had discovered. After one incident Hamlet was exiled to Britain. But somehow he returned to Denmark and took his revenge. Tragically his mother accidently drank poison and died. Hamlet finally took his revenge on the uncle, but only at the cost of almost every life on stage, including his own and his mother's life. The Tragedy of Hamlet is the best piece of writing ever done by William Shakespeare. Hamlet is the classic example of a tragedy. In all tragedies the hero suffers, and usually dies at the end. But I believe every tragedy can turn out not to be a "tragedy". In the story of Hamlet, Hamlet's death can be avoided many times, but somehow he chose not to. By the same time we felt sympathy for Hamlet; I believe the author has more to tell us. It's that whether we carefully analyze the pros and cones before we do something. Everyone deserves free will, they can do whatever they believe in, but we should think twice before we do something stupid. Don't turn yourself into a tragic hero.

We share our friends' feeling and try to give them some advice, but we shouldn't dominate their decision. The story was based on a group of nobles. Therefore, their life was filled with literature, music and parties. Emma Woodhouse was a beautiful young lady. She amused herself by trying to arrange marriages between her friends and neighbors. However, she always messed things up. Then, she almost lost her own chance of love.

Everyone needs a true friend to point out his / her shortcoming. In the story, my favorite character was Mr. Knightly. Due to his calm and honesty, he suggested to Emma that she shouldn't choose spouse for any other person and shouldn't judge people by their position. Besides, he told Emma that he was ashamed of her for speaking something rude to the neighbor. Finally, Emma knew she had been wrong, and she apologized. Fortunately, she and her friends all found their true love.

I chose this novel because it was written by Jane Austen. Her books have always been popular through films for cinema and television. I read the Pride and Prejudice when I was little, and I really appreciated it. In short, I believed that Jane Austen's brilliance will ever be illuminated through her works.

Pushkin, the Great Russian poet and storyteller, brought us the magic and adventure of 19th century Russia. This book was composed of five stories tell of army life and romance. One of them was"The Queen of Spades", telling a story about an officer who coveted after wealth. In order to know the secret of Three Winning Cards, he murdered an old woman. After he got the secret, he put all his money in gambling and won again and again. One night, Army generals and other important people came to watch the gamble and expected him to win. Nevertheless, a strange thing happened. The card hold on his hand changed from ace to the queen of spades. She looked exactly like the dead woman opening one eye and winking at him. Needless to say, the officer was frightened to death and no one ever saw him again.

Since we didn't dabble in army life, especially in 19th century, we could explore Russia through the author's view. In addition, there were extraordinary stories about a sharpshooter, an undertaker and so on. To me, the book was worth reading.

ISLAND IN THE SUN

The island, Solara, was remote and beautiful and the lives of the islanders were simple. But how long would this last? The chief of the Island Council was old and ill. His son, Sunil, would take over as the running of the island's business－coconut sale. However, there was a plot which was proceeded secretly. Randil, who was a strange man with hard, burning eyes, was Sunil's uncle. He was jealous of Sunil's ability. Consequently, he collaborated with a group of mercenaries and Major Brown, who wanted to find a place to test the nuclear bomb. With their help, he could achieve his goal to be the next chief.

Sunil and his friend, Bill, tried to avoid the disaster. Sunil asked the islanders to prepare for trouble. On the other hand, Bill asked the help of government soldiers. Yet, matter has taken an unexpected turn. At last, Randil regretted what he had done causing his love to die. When the evil men attacked the island, Randil tried to protest Sunil and even threw himself in front of him and the bullet hit him. Eventually, they successfully fought off those evil monsters.

I thought this kind of story still happened everywhere in real world. Like Sunil said," We must face the problems of future. The modern world will come to Solara." In my opinion, it's hard to strike a balance between primitive and modern. Undoubtedly, we shouldn't do others what we don't want to be done to us.

These three novels I read were quite different. And I believed this was the spirit of free reading; I could broaden my horizon through reading them.

I had finished five chapter. I think that Amir and Hassan's friendship can't last long because their class. Like Amir's father, he never refer Ali as his friend, though they grew up together. Amir never treated Hassan parity. I though Amir had a complicated feeling when he faced Hassan. He sometimes play a practical joke on Hassan, and after that he felt guilty and wanted to make up for him. He though he should be better in everything than Hassan, since he was in the higher class. So he played joke on Hassan's illiteracy. Maybe in his heart he was envy about Hassan. He didn't understand why his father seems to like Hassan more than him. His father even prepared a surgeon for Hassan to repair his harelip. He didn't want to share his father with Hassan.

He kept doing something bad on Hassan, but Hassan was still very loyal to him. It made him feel more ashamed and hate Hassan even more.

I didn't see the movie. I choose this book is beacuse I had read a few part about it and I want to finish it. But there is many new words in the story, so me have to read it very slowly.

A English boy who lived in a village in the hills in the north

of India was called Jeffery and he was twelve years old. His

father was dead and his mother was a teacher in the village

elementary schoool. Old Meli was the servant worked in the

garden of Jeffrey's home. Old Meli has looked after Jeffrey

ever since his father died. Although Meli was a servant, Jeffery

seen him as his friend who could tell many exicting story when

he was young huntung in the jungle. In the story, it just disclosed

one of those stories which was important to continue the whole

novel. Meli told the experience he had, when he faced the fierce

bear in the jungle. He killed the bear which has caught by the trap

with his bow and arrow, it was the same situation he had confronted

with at the end of the story.
Jeffrey pursuaded his mother and Meli to take him to the jungle.

Meli promised to take Jeffrey back home within three days, so

Jeffrey's mother agreed the journey. After one and a half days past,

they didn't found any deers. Meli dicided to turn back home, even

though seeing how reluctant Jeffrey was. The worse situation was

happened when Jeffrey intended to shoot monkey replaced the

unfounded deers, all bad luck things appeared. Meli was caught by a

very old trap which was might be abandoned for a long time. Because

of the serious pain Meli had got, he died at the end of the story.
In the story, I saw many practical methods to take a travel in the forest,

included how to keep away the wild animals. Jeffrey was a boy like all

many people. He wanted to try anything that was fresh to him, but never

did he think the result of what he would happen. He was very regreted

when he found what he had done caused Meli wound and even die.

People always oversated ourselves. It's true that we should have the

confidence of ourselves, but it was wrongto do things without thinking the

result.
There was a question that I could not figure out. What was theshining

holiday? In the story, Jeffrey got a holiday when it was still shining at nine

o'clock in the morning. What was that? And why could he got a holiday?
I think it was very useful to use the Glossary in the last pages of the

novel. When I could not understand a word, I can guess the word's meaning

through the text and then check the Glossary to make sure whether it is

correct or not. Take kukri for example, I guessit means a knife and check it

in the Glossary which is written "a long, sharp, curved knife". Through this

way I can learn mroe words even if it is not English.
