Jerusha Abbott was an orphan in the "John Grier Home". She was eighteen years old. It was time for her leaving John Grier Home and finding a job to made living by herself. Luckily, Jerusha's ability of writing was noticed by a trustee, who gave himself a anonymous name "John Smith". He decided to sent Jerusha to college and he would pay all the four year tuition for her. In addition, he would give Jerusha 35 dollars per month as her allowances. And, Jerusha had to write a letter one month to Mr. Smith in return.
In the letters, she had to write him about her studies and her school lives but he would not answer any letters to Jerusha. In the letters, Jerusha called Mr. Smith "Daddy-Long-Legs". It was because one thing that she knew was that he was a very tall man. She had ever saw the shadow of his legs reflected on the floor, which stretched very long. So she used the name- Daddy Long Legs.
I love the way Jean Webster wrote this story. When I read the story, it seems that there is a friend describing her new lives to me, instead of hearing friend A telling a story of somebody else. The feelings are different.
