SHERLOCK HOLMES SHORT STORIES

Author: Conan Doyle
Retold by: Anthony Laude
Publishing Company: Penguin Books Ltd

Year of publishing: 1999
Word Level: upper intermediate

I like the story about Holmes. I have not finished the book yet, but I read three short stories. The first one is about a man called Mr. Neville Saint Clair who liked to beg on the street. It's a secret. He never told his wife and his children. Every morning he left home and back in the evening. But one day his wife saw him in the second floor of a place that selling opium. His wife was very worried about him, so she called the police to search the place. But they found no one except a cripple who is begging on the street. And he claimed that there was no other in the room. So Mr. Neville Saint Clair just disappeared from the room. This is an interesting story. The first time I read the story I thought the man was killed. But after finishing the story I thought for a long time why Holmes could solve this problem. How could he figure out the whole thing?

I liked the first than the second and the third ones. The second story is about an engineer who was paid to do a strange job, and was almost made himself killed. The third one is about a murder. A doctor lived with a rich man who was always worried that he would be killed. And he was really killed by two men who were bank robbers. and so was the rich man.

I don't like to read on bus or any transportation. Because I think it's very uncomfortable. I like to read on my bed, though I have to wear glasses because of it. I can relax and listen to the music I like and read the stories I like. And I can easily grab a blanket when I was nervous to read the most horrible part.

I will finish the book quickly, because I always expect the next interesting story about Holmes.

This novel has been adapted to a movie and it is a very successful film, with Julia Roberts as Darby Shaw who is the leading role.
It describes that there are two Supreme Court judges are dead and only the law student who is the only person that knows why the murder happened. She has uncovered a deadly secret and that leads to deadly deaths because the murder are involved too many things such as oil company, political scandals, money, president election and the president himself .There are people dead one by one just because someone wants to stop the investigation to go on. The beautiful and smart law student must to protect and hide herself, and the most important things is to stay alive to tell the press the truly truth. Luckily, the justice won at last and the law student has proved that she is right.
I think this novel is very interesting and mysterious. Each murder is frightening because the author describes it very well. I can imagine the scene vividly through his words. I like this novel and I think it is a really good choice. After finishing reading this novel, I think it has piqued the curiosity of me to watch the film version. I really want to know whether the movie can completely expresses what the book has told. In addition, I am happy to recommend this book to our classmates.
The only problem that I have confronted is there is too many names that I could barely remember them all! However, this novel is really worth reading!

It's the first time that I read English novel. I thought it's a complex book that I have to think twice to comprehend. Because of this reason, I have only read half of it. But, after Eddie died , the story became more interesting.

Eddie will meet five people in heaven and learn five lesson. Eachlesson can make me review my life and reflect on myself.

Mary always looked cross.Nobody liked her and she also liked nobody. After her parents died, she was sent to her uncle's house.Living there, she always went outside and played in the garden. One day she found a garden, which was closed for a long time and nobody could go in.Then something magic happended.
She found the door and a key to get in.But everything in there was brown,so she decided to plant flowers and grass.Because of the garden, she knew Ben Weatherstaff, who was a gardener,Dickon and Colin, who was the uncle's son. Before they knew each other, they were lonely and liked nobody. But they had become more optimistic since they worked together in the garden. In the end, they were friends and lived happily.

After I read the story,I think that it is important to open one's heart.Like Mary,at first she liked nobody, but she became open and clear by living close to nature. When she planted flowers, she felt happy and began making friends. So it is good to change rather than make restrictions on ourselves.

I think it is good to read a novel every day.By doing so,I can always expose myself to English. From this experience I think the book seems  unsuitable for me.So next time I will try different books.

one day,a plane which was packed with a group of students  was forced to land on one unknowned island. However, when landing on the island, the plane suddenly burned out and crashed.Fortunately, everyone successfully escaped from the plane except for the captain who was the only adult in the plane. The survived students whose age ranged from 6 to 12 started to plan on how to survive by themselves.

They first choose ralph as their leader because it was ralph who used the conch to call them together.Ralph and other children was contented with current situation since they finally can get out of the adult's supervision .It also meant that they were free. But as time went by, they found that so-called freedom was not as  easy as they had thought(to be continued)

Before choosing this book ,I have read the Chinese version of this book. When I finished the Chinese version,I thought it was worth trying to read the English version.

As a result , I gave it a shot.

This book really inspire me to think what if all morals standard and laws were all neglected, what will become of me?or In fact, in the surface I am covered by so-called morality but deep inside of me I am just a evil person………….

I found that it is very effective to imagine each sentence as a picture and connect each picture together when we are reading. It can help you understand the content better and faster.

Author:Elmore Leonard
Retold:Donald Domonkos
Series Editors:Andy Hopkins and Jocelyn Poter

Word level:Pre-Intermediate (1200 words)
Classification:Contemporary American English
Number of Pages:38

This story was beginning from Miami. Chili Palmer was a gangster. His boss died from heart attack all of a sudden, so a man called Ray Bones became his new boss. Ray made him get the money back from Leo. It led to a lot of events. The most important matter is that he got involved in the movie career which cost 500 thousand dollars. Three gangsters started to plot for the money. Therefore, Chili, Harry and Karen finally overcome all the obstacles and got the money. They also made the movie at the end of the story.
In this story, the one I respect the most is Chili. His wisdom of solving problems ,self-confidence and carefulness affect me a lot. He has a pet phrase " Look at me." Whenver he says that, his eyes turn cold, and his opponents always feel scared. Maybe scaring somebody is not a good matter, but what I can learn from him is his self-confidence. A man with confidence trusts himself and is the winner all the time.
Frankly speaking, I don't really like this book very much after reading it. I can't get the point which the author wanted to tell us. Because of this, I even went to borrow the DVD of this book. And after watching the movie, I still can't understand what the author wanted to express. Maybe the biggest problem is my comprehension ability.

Preface:

Before going, I should notice that I'm an extreme "Preface-hater", especially to those reveal almost all the details of the book. (For God's sake. Why don't you write your own book?) The best preface I suggested is down below. (By the way, the preface wrote by author itself is not concluded inside.)

"WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC, MARVELOUS, AND INCREDIBAL

It's a tale for the adults who have been lost in the city. Gaiman reminds people even minor things could make huge differences to your life. Keep hope, and read the book. This will take you someplace different."

English Reading Journal 1
The Father and the Son
Author : Nick Tsou
Year of Publishing : 2008 , March
Number of pages : 187 pages

I read one-third of this book . This chapter is called " The Father '' , which depicts how stubborn the leading character's father was . As a veteran , he always looked upon his children as his soldiers.Speaking of his wife , a young lady who had once been raped , had no love for her family . Borned in such a miserable family , the birth of the leading character and his six siblings seemed to be another tragedy.

In fact , I didn't know what kinds of book I should read at first , and I changed my determination several time . Because of the fact that this book was written by my English teacher , and part of the story is his autobiography , which interests me and I finally determined to give it a try . Though I didn't finish reading it , I am deeply convinced that most of us are living a good life compared with the description of the story .

I haven't read an English novel for a long time , so I felt somewhat difficult in the reading . In my opinion , keeping reading on a regular basis is the best way for effective reading , rather than read a lot at one time( It's an experience I had earned in this lesson . ) . Besides , selecting a suitable style of literature may also be a indispensable element in effective reading . I believe that we can read one after another by doing so .

"Holly couldn't live without her husband Gerry, until the day she had to." It was this sentense that impressed me. We often take many things for granted, including the existence of someone who plays an important role in our life. We never think of our beloved ones may be suddenly get a serious illness and even left us behind.

In the story Holly's husband died of a terminal illness. Not knowing how to live without Gerry, she was in despair. But amazingly, she received a letter written by Gerry, she started to think whether the letter was written by Gerry. And if it was written by Gerry, when did he wrote it?Since I have read the introduction already I know that the letter was actually wrote by Gerry. It's a signal of love.

Differed from others, the story reminded me of the love of my parents. They are always there when I need them, but I just forget to give my concern to them and take their existence for granted. Living far away from my hometown, Tainan, when was the last time I went home spending time with them? All of a sudden, I miss my parents so much! Hey,I think I will make a phonecall.

Author: Dai Sijie
Published by Alfred A. Knopf
Translated from the French by Ina Rilke
Written: 2000 (English 2001)
Publisher: Anchor Books
Length: 197 pages

This book has now also been made into a film.

The book is divided into three parts, and I have finished part 1.I think I will finish the book in two weeks or so.

The background of this book is set in the early 1970s,the later stage of Mao Zedong`s Cultural Revolution. Two boys,Luo and Ma,are sent to a remote village in Sichuan Province for re-education.When they arrive, they are questioned by the village leader and their luggage is examined. The village leader burns a book which is found in their luggage.

When he is about to burn Ma`s violin,Luo stop him doing so by telling a lie.
They are forced to work on the mountain with winding paths, including carrying buckets of excrement used for fertilizer on their back. One day,a young girl, known as the Little Seamstress, accompany her grandfather to listen to Ma`s violin performance.Luo and Ma both like the girl and fall in love with her.

The above-mentioned is the content I have read.

I used to view reading a novel as a burden, but now I`m trying to change my thought towards reading a novel.I admit that I can learn something from reading, and I want to make it a habit to read regularly..

I believe that many people have read this book, if not, you might have heard of it. It's talking about a man (Mitch Albom himself) who luckily got the chance to see his mentor in the college again, and took the final courses of him which lectures
on " how to live". Since the old professor, Morrie Schwartz, has been informed that he had been attacked by a mortal disease,
his viewpoint toward life changed.

I've read this book in chinese version at lease a year ago. I was inspired and benefited by the book a lot so I decided to reread it but this time in english.

Amy's Mum died, so she had to live with her father who she had not seen for nine years. She didn't like her Dad and thought he is crazy. One day, she found 16 eggs and kept them in the cupboard. The next day, all the eggs hatched out. She gave names for her geese and they thought of Amy as their mother. Her Dad agreed her to keep all the geese. Both of they loved the geese very much. With the summer went past; they were worrying about their geese for the coming of winter. So, they taught the geese to follow their plane. They decided to take them to the marsh in North Carolina. They faced many challenges during the journey. Finally, Amy realized her dream and gradually loved her Dad.

Amy fulfilled her dream even though it was difficult and she had to fly to the destination without the help of her Dad. She did this with her courage and her Dad's encouragement. I think it's is good for us to take her as a model. It's really touched me when Amy finally fulfilled her dream, even though the sentences were composed by simple words.

I always bring the novel with me so that I can read it whenever I want. Since the book is light, it is easy for me to do so and by this way; I will not think of reading novels as a burden and can enjoy in it whenever I want. I think reading novels with some light music is also a good way for me. It makes me feel relaxed and can read comfortably. I love to see movies, so novels based on a screenplay is always appeal to me. That's also the reason why I chose this book.

This book has 18 chapters and I have read 3 chapters. Ishmael is a school teacher but he wants to do something different in his life. Sailing is the way he likes.
This time Ishmael decided to go on a whaling ship instead of a merchant vessel. When Ishmael headed to the whaling ship he had planed, the bad weather made him stay at an inn, where he met a new friend-Queequeg.
The first time when Ishmael saw Queequeg, he thought Queequeg was a rude and savage man. Soon, he found Queequeg was not such a terrible but a friendly guy.

The reason why I chose this book is that it is a famous novel but I haven't had a chance to read it before. This book really indicates the nervous relationship between people who live in modern cities and who live in the places that are not so thrive.

The book is mainly focus on two parts, one of which is the collection of fifteen stories happening in the modern Indian subcontinent, while the other part showed the readers two retellings of Hindu mythologies. I have been interested in the mysterious land, India, for a long time. Therefore, in order to get a closer look and of India and to know more about people's lives in this land, I chose the book which is written by an Indian writer.

During the first of reading, I have concentrated on the first story of the book, Portrait of an Artist. The narrator, a sixteen-year-old boy, was a literature lover and loved writing poems. During a visit of his uncle in Calcutta, he met the tutor of his cousins, whom they called Mastermoshai. Mastermoshai, a fifty-year old man, was also a poet and wrote several articles for local publishing. He really appreciated the talent of the narrator and gave the young boy several opportunities by lecturing him with classic literature and introducing him to the publisher in Calcutta. Mastermoshai, a man living in tragedy of the death of his wife and son, seemed to have a new meaning of life after the appearing of the narrator. However, since a quarrel between these two and narrator's moving to England, they, who had been connected by the fantasy of literature, were separated. According to the later information got from narrator's mother, Mastermoshai died of poverty and loneliness.

I strongly felt the affection they gave to each other during the story and could sense the strong connection between these two main characters. They were brought together by the same enthusiasm of poems and literatures, even the sorrow and pain of the Mastermoshi was nearly been healed at that time. After the quarrel, I think, perhaps, they might want to make up after but the self-esteem stopped them from showing their real feelings.

In the story, I can also find the strong scent of the Indian culture. For instance, the book started with a Hindu festival, Durga Puja, when every house at that day in Calcutta was decorated with lights and everyone was full with joy, which I think that it is a strong contrast with the sad end of the story. The writer smartly puts Indian culture in the book and does not make reader think that it is just a line of a story but a complete image of the full story.

Although this is not the first time for me to read an English publishing, I find that a fiction, or a literature work, is much harder than materials I have read before. I used to believe that reading a novel might be easier than reading an English textbook; however, the truth is that novels get more deep meanings which should be carefully and repeatedly thought by reader. For me, reading a novel is a process of thinking and I really enjoy it. However, to make my next reading more comfortable, I should do some margin notes next to each paragraphs. I think doing the margin notes can allow me to get more out of the novel.

This novel has been adapted to a movie and it is a very successful film ,with Julia Riberts as Darby Shaw who is the leading role.
It describes that there is a law student who is the only person that knows why the murder happened. She has uncovered a deadly secret and that leads to deadly deaths. However, the justice won at last and the law student had proved that she was right.
i think this novel is very interesting and mysterious. Each murder is frightening because the author describes it very well.I can imagine the scene vividly through his words.I like this novel and I think it is a really good choice. In addition, I am happy to recommend this book to our classmates.
The only problem that I have confronted is there is too many names that I could barely remember them all! However, this novel is really worth reading!

It is talking about a guide dog, Aloha, which means Hello, Good bye, I Love you. There are two lines in this book. One is a 12-year-old boy, called Diego, who raise Aloha for Guide dog for the blind, and the other is a women, called Lousie, who lose her eyesight in a car accident. It seems that the two lines doesn't have any relationship between each other at the begining. Ahola was trained in a lovely family. On the othe hand, Losie trIed to overcome her disability. After the training in the raiser's house. Ahola returned to the Guide dog for the blind campus and met her new partner, Lousie. In this book, we can see how cute a dog it is. She's not just a pet or another cane for the blind, she's a friend, a loyalty friend. It is a sweet, encourage and splendid story. I recommend it to everybody. It is worthy of reading.
My heart always go up and down with the plots.I can find the true love between human and dog and I can feel the pain and sadness that the blind suffer from. When I read the book, I fond how happy am I that I can see the beautiful world and how brave the blind is that they face their misfourtune fearlessly. How I wish I can get involve into the program of foster a guide dog, but as the lack resources for the blind in Taiwan. We still have a large room to improve.

I always read the book on my way to school, I think it is a good way to use time or kill time. The writer uses easy words to write book. Even if I can't recognize the word, I can guess the meaning of it. I didn't look up to the dictionary throuth the reading, I think I should write it down at first and look up to the dictionary after I finish my daily reading. I think I can take more notes on my paper, not only just write the pages down, but write down the feelings and questions. Writing down the beautiful senteses may also impove my english ability. I will try it the next time. Finally, I hope I can keep this reading habit in my daily life. One more thing I want to mention, I met a guide dog in the MRT station yesterday(10/22). He stayed calm next to his owner. I didn't walk to them (I knew they were on work), but I owed my respect to themin my heart.

William thinks his father is a great and an extraordinary man. But he doesn't understand his father much.He wants to know about his father as much as he could, while his father is still alive...Edward Bloom,William's father, lies dying.Though his son wants to know him better and ask him many questions,he just can't seem to stop telling jokes and the tales what he've been through. As Edward tells more and more stories, though those tales are hilarious, wretching,William becomes to understand what made his father, what he is searching for,and why he has to do.

This book is divided into three parts.Every part contains several independent stories.Til Thursday,I've read over the Part 1.Most of the stories in Part 1 are telling about Edward's youth, and why Edward is so special, different from the others. But in Part 1,it doesn't mentioned why Edward wants to leave his home town,Ashland,Alabama.

I always like to read some fictions which have been adapt for movies. That is the main reason I choose this book as my extracurricular reading. And I know that the most effetive reading way for me is to read about 30 minutes before going to bed. Because usually, when I go to bed,I won't fall asleep easily. But when I read before sleeping,it does help me fall asleep quickly and sleep well. And sometimes I would read while I'm waiting for the bus or while taking the MRT.It does good as well.Though I don't read many pages in a day,I don't worry much about that.Because what I care is that how happy I am during the reading time.

I learn a great sentence from this book and I want to share with you guys,"It was a great joy but a great burden."

MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA

Author: Arthur Golden

Publishing company: First Vintage Mass-Market Edition

Number of pages: 502

There are 33 chapters in this book. So far, I've read 22 chapters and will finish the rest of the book in a week or so.

"Memoirs Of A Geisha" , a well-known novel, has been adapted for the motion picture and swept the world of Asian movies. This book is a real-life reflection and dictation of the geisha—Sayuri. From the miserable childhood to the successful geisha career, Sayuri elaborately dictated all astonishing and incomparable experiences she has encounter

-ed in this book.

Borned in a poor family with a mother suffering from bone cancer, her father couldn't afford to the large amount of expenses. As a result, he exchanged his daughters for money and sent Sayuri and her sister to the geisha houses in Kyoto respectively. Sayuri once tried to run away with her sister but she failed. Her failure led to the confinement for her to become a geisha. However, the chairman came along and found the potential of being a geisha within Sayuri. He pushed Sayuri onto the stage secretly. With the impressive beauty and the unique blue-gray eyes, she had become more and more popular in the district. Namely, more and more problems emerged. She had to deal with the battle with her best friend—Pumpkin, a geisha in Sayuri's geisha house. It's a profound hurt in her psyche. Moreover, she had to do many things she didn't want to do at all to please her clients. Above all, she was compelled to accept the man she didn't love as her donna —a man possessing privilege to live with her. Her true love was the chairman and she tried to approach him by all means. Nonetheless, she could only gaze at him in distance and keep the secret on and on.(to be continued)

The main reason why I bought this book was that I was touched by it after I saw the movie and I eagerly wanted to know the detail. I regard Sayuri as a legend, for she overcoming lots of conflicts with her strong mind, faith and wisdom. She was so eloquent that every time I read her words, I felt amazing in that she could cope with any problems through her words. No wonder she was impressive! However, by reading her story, I found it difficult to avoid misunderstandings resulting from fame. The more famous you are, the more possible to be misconceived. According to this book, Sayuri fell victim to misunderstanding in many situations. Nevertheless, it's her intelligence and pure spirit that solved problems. It is exactly what I have to learn in my life time.

There are many new vocabularies in this book. When I read the word I didn't understand, I just ignored it. I would gradually understand the word by repeatedly reading it in later parts. Furthermore, I always imagined the scene of the story. This way is pretty interesting. By my own imagination, I can create the world from other prospective. It is pretty funny!

I have finished reading the first tale of the book with a nervous mood since it is a little creeping. It talked about three scholars involved into a magical time inversion to witness a murder, and then strayed in the forest before they bumped into an old family that only existed in the 18th century. While they finally got out of the strange forest, their friends who lived with them confirmed that the scholars were drunk since they have never stepped out of the hotel in these days. Then they stretched out a series of actions to reveal the reality of the mystery. In the end, they finally figured out it was the supernatural power that brought them back to the past and, to my surprise and embarrassment, it turned out to be a dream of one of the scholars.

I love to read stories with mystery or magic, such as detective novels and ghost or magic stories. This book is to my taste. It made me feel that I was also involved in that circumstance to experience such strange things. Though it was not a detective story for me to infer the truth, it also stimulated me to think what on earth the truth might be. Reading a book like this is interesting even though the outcome is perfunctory because it explained the whole story by indicating that it was only a dream. Good stories may give people a responsible answer no matter it was rational or not. The biggest question in the book was that it should give us some explanation, not just posing a lot of weird and unexplainable things to us without answers.

Though I did not read many books, all those I chose were appealing. I used to read books when I was free, not on a daily basis. This time, I am trying to read novels daily, and I think I can do much better after a few weeks, with more reading time, more books.

Next time when I choose a new book, I will look for a book more famous and meaningful. I will compel myself to read 30 minutes daily to form a good habit. I will tell my friends about the story I have read, and if they have read it, too, I would like to discuss with them. I think these might help me to enjoy the exercise more.

Since I started reading a little bit late, I've only finished two chapters so far. In these two chapters I understood that Mrs. Bennet, the mother of the five girls, was a shallow woman whose biggest wish in life was seeing her daughters getting married. And that's why she was eager to visit their new neighbor, Mr. Bingley, a single man with a large fortune. Another interesting character was Mr. Bingley, the farther of the girls. He took a passive attitude toward her wife's stupidity and he also enjoyed teasing her as an entertainment in life. Elizabeth was Mr. Bennet's favorite daughter because her intelligence was different from her sisters who were silly and ignorant. These interesting and outstanding characteristics has led me into the story and made me want to know how the story would go on.
This is not the first time I read stories in English, but it's the first time I really get into the book and enjoy the story. I think it is important to find something I really interested in, so I will keep on reading instead of getting tired of it. Reading has been the weaker part of my English comprehensions; therefore, I suppose that reading novels in the level I can handle is the first step for improving my reading comprehension.

I have read half of the book, and inside of it contains magical stories. There are stories from Australia, Persia, Greece, France, America, Germany, India, New Zealand and so on. Traditional stories and fairy tales, some of which we had read before, still facinates me a lot. For example, the first story called ''Puss in Boots'' originated from France describes how the intelligent and thoughtful cat help his master live happily ever after with the beautiful princess and win the kings trust. Though the cat's master---a miller's son who just received a cat when his father died, thinking the cat is useless at the begining, then become very grateful for the cat at the end of the story. Other stories which I've read including ''Strong Magic'', a story telling us how the koala come from, ''How the Turtle got its Shell'', ''The Magic Fish Hook'', ''The Musicians of Bremen'' and many other wonderful stories.
I think I've chosen the right book to read despite that it's easy. I followed my feeling to choose this book as my first reading journal because the pictures in this book really attracted me. The stories in it contain heroes and heroines, magic, imagined creatures and how things appear that ancestors cannot explain in the early stage of history. It helps ma learn more about the cultures in different continents. I enjoyed it very much.
In order to read more efficiently, I buried myself in this book without any conversations and noises. To make myself enjoy in it, I would read it when I'm in a good mood. That's a way I found useful when reading this book.

Jane Eyre was a very poor girl. Her parents died
when she was very little, so she lived with her aunt
who was hated her. Jane was sent to the school when
she was just 10-year-old. As she was 18 years old,
she found the job as a governess at Thornfield. At
there, Jane met the man she loved and bumped into a
series of strange things.
Jane's life before Thornfield was a nightmare. Not
only Jane's aunt and cousins treated her badly, but
also the school's financial manager, Mr.Brocklehurst,
was so cruel to her. However every things changed when
she went to Thornfield. Although the master,
Mr.Rochester, treat her not friendly at the first sight,
he taught her how to free herself because he loved her.
The sentences he told her was very beautiful."You're
like a restless bird in a cage. When you get out of
the cage, you'll fly very high." What I can't understand
is that if Mr. Rochester really loved Janes, how can he
still insist to hide the important secret about himself
from Jane. I think it's not fair to Jane.
When I reading, I will not use the dictionary until I
finish the chapter. I can guess the word's meaning according
to the text. This way can really help me remember the
new words.
Choose the book Ilike is very important. Because the
story intersts me, I can read it more enthusiastic. I
didn't finish the book yet, but one thing I know is that
I will more and more interest in it.

By reading King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table 、I had acquired knowledge about the Middle Ages in Britain . In the story 、a brave man usually took respect to the winner after the fight and was royal to him during his life . I think it is what called knight-errantry . In addition 、King Arthur always put his people and his country prior to himself 、which I consider it a thing that a great king will do . After reading this book 、I have learned that a person will succeed if he is confident in himself .

When I am reading 、I always read aloud the content so that I can remember what I have read more than just look at the book . By doing so 、I can also take the opportunity to strengthen my speaking ability . However、there is a problem when I read the book . I always stop read the content when I see names or places that I do not know how to pronounce . What should I do 、give me some advice please ?

This is my first time reading English books choosed by myself . I do not think that I am effective in reading books . I usually delay the schedule I planed in advance for several days . However、knowing that 「A thing will be done if you take it seriously . 」 from the professor Tsao 、I make a decision to take reading English books as an important thing and to do my best to follow the schedule I have made .

I haven't finish the whole book yet, so I'll just share the chapters I've read far away. This book is about a father Larrey, who is out of work and definitely urgent to find a job just to make ends meet. He lives with his only son Nick, also his best friend because he was divorced. However, his ex-wife is now living with her fiance Don, who is a rich guy and a successful person. Therefore, it is easy to comprehend that Larrey doesn't want to lose Don, especially when he is his son's soon-to-be stepdad. He tried lots of ways no matter legal or illegal to convince investors to support him some money. Unfortunately, nobody seems to trust him. At the moment he was almost becoming a failure, good news pop up - he got a job, a mysterious job. The job was a night guard at the museum which seems quite easy but actually not. He was totally shocked at the first night, because everything in the museum comes to life! He finally realize what the retired night guard said "Do not let anything in or OUT." (To be continued...)
I think this is an interesting novel to read. It describes every character so clearly as if they were real. I can see the love Larry gave to his son and it touches me. For example, most of the power for him to find a stable job comes from his son. This is not only a funny story, but also a story talking about love between the grownup and the child. The description of every exhibition is quite exciting when coming alive and I think that part is worth reading because it'll make you unable to stop your laughing.
By the way, choosing the right book is important. The more it interest you, the more you can persist in reading. Take my book for example, it makes me want to know whats going to happen next, so I would go across it whenever I'm in a free time. As you read through, you will feel comfortable instead of boredom!

This novel was adapted for movie several years ago. Since I watched the film in parts at my history class, the plot was clear for me to follow. It's a true story a long and bitter conflict between England and Scotland. A leading man, William, lost his brother and father who are rebel forces when he was seven. He stood at the graves. And it was the same time, a little girl who became his wife had handed William a flower — the purple flower of Scotland.

I think it's the vicious rule of " first night" — a girl who lives on a nobles land must spend her wedding night with the noble of the land, not with her husband. William and Murron had a secret wedding, nevertheless, the shameless noble and soldier wanted to rape his wife and cut her throat. Therefore, a series of rebel occurred. Although, William still died at last, Isabella who was the wife of son of the king of England conceived his child.

As far as I'm concerned " BRAVEHEART" is a sad story, however, it has a sense of victory at the end of it. In short, it perfectly conveyed the conflicting feeling between Scotland's people and nobles and England. I really toughed by the following quote" ' Sons of Scotland,' William shouted, ' You have come here to fight as a free men. Yes — if you fight, perhaps you'll die. If you run, you may live for a time. But at what cost? They'll kill us, but I say we'll will always be free! "

The novel deserves strongly recommend.

This novel talked about the three adventures, The Speckled Band, The Five Orange Pips, The Crown of Diamonds, of Sherlock Holmes. The author was a novelist with an eye for detail. The first and second story filled me with fear. The scene arose in my mind just like I got into the airtight room, where was poorly lit by candles and was so silent that I could hear the beat of my heart. So I tried to finish it as soon as I could and buried it at the corner of my desk.

I read the detective novel for the very first time. There was no denying that I appreciate the author's logical thinking, his compact style of writing and the fine and delicate plots. In addition, I realized that things are not what they seem. Still I was terrified of this kind of story. Nervousness filled my vein.

It's a sarcastic novel. Obi Okonkwo was the first student the UPU sent to England. For years later, he came back and had a job in the Civil Service. Due to his integrity, I thought he was a promising man. Then he fall love with an unsuitable girl, Clara who was an osu (Osu were people who, many years ago, had been made servants of a spirit or a god.)Things seem go worst from wrong, his mother died, Clara left him forever and he was accused of taking bribe.

At the end of the story, the author asked, Why Obi took the bribe? Once he refused to do all illegal behavior, let alone took the bribe. Obi's boss said the truth is that " all Africans took bribe." To me, I thought it's a serious discrimination. The reason I guessed is that he wanted to prove that he didn't have wrong to marry Clara. Although he didn't have a handsome salary, he still insisted to support his family, pay back the loan to the UPU and pay high tax without help. Soon he found it was impossible to make ends meet. Besides, everyday some rich men put temptation in his way. Finally, he yielded way to it. In my opinion, this novel is worth reading and thinking.
