The four chapters I read were: Miss Honey ,The Trunchball, The Parents, Throwing the Hammer and Bruce Bogtrotter and the cake
In those chapters, Matilda went to school and met her teacher called Miss Honey. Miss Honey is a nice teacher. When she first spoke to the newcomers to the class, she found out that this little girl was talented. Although Matilda was lucky to have Miss Honey to be her teacher, the headmistress of the school named Miss Trunchball is such a monster. Miss Trunchball doesn't like kids at all so she did lots of unbelievable punishments on students. For example in the chapter Throwing the Hammer, the headmistress throw a little girl as a hammer as she did in the Olympic game just because her mother has plaited her hair into pigtails.
When I first read this I asked why parents allow headmistress did such violent behaviors to their children. The author then quickly explained the reason by Matilda. It is easy to infer that the whole thing was too ridiculous to believe so the grow-ups must not trust what their kids said. I thought the author wants to provide an ironical atmosphere that most of adults are stubborn and down-to earth in the story. They don't admit anything that sounds unreasonable. They just lost their utter innocence and imagination. What a pity!
My favorite part of the four chapters is in Bruce Bogtrotter and the cake. It describe that a mischievous boy ate the headmistress' chocolate cake so she had cook make an enormous cake and command the boy to eat up the big cake. It is a cruel work. Nevertheless, the boy finished it! As the very last mouthful disappeared, a tremendous cheer rose up from the audience were leaping on to their chairs and yelling and clapping. I like this ending.

A.Which ones of these methods are you already using? How do they work out for you? How's your experience compare with what Ruggiero (the author of the book) has to recommend?

1.Study efficiently:When I am study,I 'd choose my study time at night, espcially when I am studying major subjects. Also,I'd like to study alone in library because I need a quiet environment that can help me study more efficiently.
2.View frustrations as opportunities:In my growing process,I may not encounter such big frustrations as many adults. The frustrations I met is something about scores. We had many quiz and exam, sometimes I would get bad score, instead of sit there and complain how bad my score is,I will think about that maybe I use the wrong way in studying the subject and chang the way.the most important thing is:think that as an opportunity to advance.
3.Plan your days:I plan my days when I am busy.I will write down everything I need to do in these days, and plan them into everyday. In using this way,I can do things more quickly and efficiently.

B.Which ones looks interesting and promising enough that you are going to try out? What's your plan?

1.Chip away at big jobs:When I have a big task,I won't know which part I need to accomplish first. In this article,it mention:beeak the project or paper into a number of parts, and spend a little time on it every few days.It is such a simple method, but I never think about it.
2.Capture insight:I will keep a pencil and paper handy all the time, writing down any ideas I think or others say.It will improve my creation.
3.Keep a journal:It is a hardest thing I need to learn and turn it as an habit.I can write down the most important part in this class, after the class, add more knowledge into it and sort it.

C.
1.Taking notes is very important, but I always afraid I can't cach the most important prat of this class or speed, and the speed I take notes is slow.Is there a good way to improve that?
2.The stories in this article mention many creative thinking, but I think I don't have such a creation like them.Is there any way that can make my brain think more creatively?

The three chapters I read were: The Ghost, Arithmetic and The Platinum-Blond Man

After the superglue episode, Matilda has a comparative calm week. Her father seems to lose his bad temper temporarily. Then he did the stupid thing again.

One day, he came back home with a dark face. Everything that annoyed him includes the thing that Matilda was sitting on the arm-chair reading quietly. He barked at her and ripped the pages out of the book. The author describes the scene vividly that I can almost imagine what it happened. Reading this novel also improve my writing skills such as how to use the most appropriate words to depict the events lively.

Matilda just devising another suitable plan to revenge what her father did. She borrowed a parrot and hid it with the cage into the chimney. In the evening, the parrot began to call. Both Mr. Wormwood and Mrs. Wormwood were afraid of the voice. And Matilda was glad to see her poisonous parents were scared to death.

The Arithmetic chapter is writing about Matilda is good at calculating numbers. I think this chapter has nothing special but inspire Matilda planning other punishment again. What's going on in the next chapter is that she exchanged her father's hair stuff to her mother's which makes Mr. Wormwood's hair not only terrible but also fewer and fewer.

On the whole, all the chapters I read until now keep writing what Matilda is a genius and how crazy her parents are. I expect what's going on next.

A.Which ones of these methods are you already using? How do they work out for you? How's your experience compare with what Ruggiero (the author of the book) has to recommend?
1. Plan my days: Same as the author, it allows me to make the most of my time. But it is not that easy to finish all the tasks listed in the plan.
2. Listen carefully: Taking notes is necessary in classes, and I am still learning to identify the most important words and sentense and record just those.
3. Study efficiently: I used to listen to the music while studying, but I got rid of this habbit and found that I study more efficiently than before.
B.Which ones looks interesting and promising enough that you are going to try out? What's your plan?
1. Capyure insight: It's really a nice suggest to record interesting ideas to me, so that I won't forget.
2. View frustration as opportunities: Well goes the prverb "Failure is the mother of success." It is necessary for me to learn to take defeat well, instead of giving up easily.
3. Tackle unpleasant tasks immediately: This is really a difficult task to me, but sounds so useful.
4. Refuse to tolerate confusion: I often tolerate confusion, and it is really a big obstakle to my study. In my opinion, asking questions may be a good way to learn this skill.
C.Questions about these methods?
I try to take notes efficiently, but I find it difficult to get the point of the lecture.

A. Which ones of these methods are you already using? How do they work out for you? How's your experience compare with what Ruggiero (the author of the book) has to recommend?

1.Plan my days:

I plan my days every morning. And it's really helpful for me when I have too many things to do in one day. However, sometimes I forget to make a plan. Then things go wrong.

The method I use to plan my days are a little different from the author's. Every day, I bring a sheet of paper with me. The content of the sheet of paper includs the things I need to do today and something which happen today and I sould do it in the future. So, every mornig, I have to do two thing. First, I put the things I shoud to do in the future on yesterday sheet of paper in the right date in my schedule book. Then, look up the schedule book to see what I sould do today. With the method, I can not only be more efficient but also be clearer about what I shoud do today.

2.Read for understanding:

Actually, I 've already known the strategy from a book. However, read for understanding confuses me sometimes. When I try to catch the important meaning, I lose some details. Often, I miss too many details. So, I think I shoud make a balance between grasping main idea and understanding the whole thing.

B. Which ones looks interesting and promising enough that you are going to try out? What's your plan?

1.Tackle unpleasant tasks immediately:

I tend to procrastinate when a task is unpleasant. I hope I will put unpleasant tasks high on my list of priorities next time so I won't do it hastily again.

2.Refuse to tolerate confusion:

In the strategy, it said, " if you encounter a confusing passage, don't just hope that passing of time will clarify its meaning. Instead, reread the passage ALOUD and slowly, listening to the words. " This stratage reall interests me. My brain always goes blank when I ' m confused about the passage. And I always do nothing except letting the time passing. The way suggests me that I shoud be more active and read aloud. I will try..

C.Questions about these methods?

1. I know that choosing a suitable place is important, but I found it hard to find a suitable place to study. Is my mind too easily-disrupted? What sould I do?

2. When I try some stratagies like Read for understanding or Keep a journal, I always spend too much time. How can I manage my time better?

Although it is late for posting reading journal one, I still post it right away. I want to make my reading journal homework completed. The novel I chose is called Matilda. It is a story about an extra-ordinary girl named Matilda. She is sensitive and brilliant. But her parents are idiots.
The three chapters I read are: The reader of books, Mr. Wormwood-the great car dealer and The Hat and the superglue.
At first, the author describes how crazy parents are about thinking their children are genius in an ironical tone. Then he give readers an opposite example which is Matilda's parents. Mr. Wormwood is a dealer in second-hand cars and Mrs. Wormwood is a housewife who likes to play bingo and watch TV. Neither of them like reading so they consider Matilda as a jerk. In Mr. Worm-the great car dealer chapter, Matilda argued with her dad because Mr. Wormwood sales second-hand cars in a dishonest way and doesn't allow her to read. She thinks that she must do something to help her to tolerate her father's idiocy. In the next chapter, she put the superglue in her father's hat to punish him.
In fact, I don't really agree the way which Matilda treat her parents. The first reason may be that I don't have such mean parents. The second reason must be that it is important to respect the elders in Chinese culture. I think I am a conservative person.

It is almest at the end of the story.. So there are some transitions of the story. First, after Riley plays the guitar in front of his father, Jack, she has a long talk with him. Jack compliments her on her singing and presents his love to her. Riley responds by saying " I love you, too, Dad. " It' her first time saying those words. The relationship between them has some subtle changes.

Second, Dean finally realizes that he wants to fix up his bad relationship with his parents. He accpets Jack. And he finally accept his mother, April. After a sex game, Blue's pleasure of their encounter was gone. She tells Dean that she is going to leave. She thinks that Dean will be just like those men who gave her up and let her go.

However, she doesn't succeed in leaving because Nita arrests her by accusing her of stealing her necklace. Her jail cell had proven to think about her life. And she finally realizes how much she loves Dean and she decides to face it instead of going away her love like she used to . Dean is happy to get his soul mate back again.. And they get married at the end.

In the whole book, the relationship among Dean, Riley,Jack and April moves me the most. It's a comfort as they finally accpet one another and encourage one another. It makes me recall my family as well. I think I shoud cherish the love my family give me more.

Recently, there are mid-term exams. When I was preparing those big exams, I did't do my extensive reading. However, I think that reading shoud be done every day. So I have to learn how to make a more appropriate schedule on my study. So I won't miss something which I shoud do every day.

  1. The methods I am already using now are "Capture Insights" and "Chip away at big job". I write down my insights as the ingredients for Chinese writing. It works for me because the supporting ideas are handy for me to use in the article and I can feel less panic to finish a complete article in such a short time. Also, I find out that those detail things I have written down are usually the most unforgettable in my mind.
  2. Since I realize there is no time for me to sit down and finish a work at the same time, I try to separate them in different parts. First, I will find out what kind of work can be stuck into the scrappy periods of time and can be interrupted as I wish. For example, I read my English novel once I have free time, and I review the vocabulary when I am tired of reading.
  3. I am going to try "Tackle my tasks immediately". I always expect myself to hand in the homework in time or to finish work leisurely. However, every time I pull over the task to the next day, the next day…, and here comes the dead line!!! People can always fin a good excuse for themselves when they feel lazy. Therefore, it is the best way to face the hard task at once.
  4. I will list out every task I have to do and compared their dead lines and work schedule. Then try to start with the most unpleasant or the hardest one. Once I finished a period in expectation, I will do one thing relatively easy to relax. To know the source of stress and conquer it is the only way to get rid of stress.
  5. 3. About "Take charge of your mind", is there any specific way to control our mind?

Standing in the foreign languages aisle in 誠品 bookstore, without second thought, I quickly picked up this book, "Sex and the City," which caught my sight immediately. Yes, I've watched the movie, but I still want to read it and, enjoy it again!
Year after year, 20-something women come to New York City, in searching of two l's, labels and love. And so did the main character, Carrie Bradshaw, and her three best friends, Charlotte York, Miranda Hobes, and Samantha Jones. Carrie was a writer who wrote about her friends' stories. And having gotten the knack for labels early, she concentrated on her search for love. Charlotte, who was looking for perfect love, married a Jewish at the end, and adopted a lovely Chinese little girl, Lily. And Miranda was a disciple of tough love, however, she had a shot-gun wedding in the end. As for Samantha, her love was sex, yet she found a man that combined sex and love, a Hollywood star, Smith Jerrod. And she was his manager. And Carrie, she was looking for something big. However, when that big love comes along, it's not always easy. She finally made up with Mr.Big (John), the man whom she dated for ten years. And, they are getting marriage!
After the rough introduction about those four, the story began with Big and Carrie's looking for an apartment in Manhattan, and at last they found a gorgeous penthouse. After discusssing the only disadvantage about it, the small closet, Big said" I got it" just like he was picking up a check for coffee and promised to undo the closet. Carrie was so excited about the new house that she couldn't help but told her sisters to be jealous of her!
That is an impressive start. It's about two grown-ups' deciding to live together, to spend more time with each other. However, the part that attracted me most was the friendship between the four girls. Even time moved them on, they are still they. They get in touch very often, know everything about anyone of them very well, and having a drink or a dinner together just like before. It's the belonging that touch me. Everyone should belong to somewhere in the sociaty. And I am one of my beloved five girls too. I hope that after years, we will be still us just like they were: supporting and listening.

A.Which ones of these methods are you already using? How do they work out for you? How's your experience compare with what Ruggiero (the author of the book) has to recommend?

1.Plan my days: Actually, I alway plan my days in mind instead of in words. I think it will be better if I plan on papers, less I forget anything.
2.View frustrations as apportunities: I believe that frustrations enhance our abilities to solve problems and provide chances to think in another way.
3.Listen actively: It is true that I always feel sleepy in class if I am not taking notes simultaneously. But, I don't always achieve this point, honestly.
4.Refuse to tolerate confusion: I really don't like to save confusions for later to solve, neither would I tolerate confusions. But I faced some difficulties when putting it into practice. That is, it is hard to make a specific question or a concrete idea right after receiving information.
5.Choose athe right time, a suitable place and favorable conditions: I know for long that queit beats noisy, but not every time for me. I sometimes fell asleep if the place was too queit (such as library). How can I solve situation like this?

B.Which ones looks interesting and promising enough that you are going to try out? What's your plan?

1.Tackle unpleasant tasks immediately: Weren't it for my laziness and reluctance I wouldn't have to stay up all night just to rush through reports, right?
2.Clip away at big jobs: A big job is somehow equal to an unpleasant task! Besides dealing with it first, achieve it little by little every day sounds like a good way.
3.Take charge of my mind: The huge problem of my learning efficiency is all about concentration! I need to work hard on this one indeed.
4.Capture insights: Have countless of thoughts but never capture then when they come to mind. Then those original innovative ideas would be worthless, I guess. So the next time it pops out, dash it down!

C.We may all know methods like these already. So, I think the major big thing would be about persistence and constantcy. Did the author mention anthing about this in the book? Or do you, dear professor, have some suggestion?

1.

Among these methods, only two of them I am already using. One is "Plan my days"and the other is "Choose the right time". Because I have a week plan book, I will set goals that I should do the next day or the next week. By planning my schedule in the week plan book, I can remember that which one should I do now. I usually study before 11 o'clock at night, because I think I can't absorb what I read when I am very sleepy, and if I can't finish study before 11 o'clock, I will get up early the next morning.

2.

Methods I am interested in are "Read for understanding" and "Keep a journal". When Iam reading, I never skim the chapter and I usually underline the word I don't know right away. In this article, it tells me that pay attentionto the headings, the first two paragraphs, and the last paragraph. And it also tells me that underline or highlight words after read the chapter. I think next time when I read, I can try this method to see if it does more effective for me to understand what articles talk about and what the central idea is. I only keep English general journal now, after I read this article, I think I can apply keeping a journal to every subjects after school.

3.

(1) Is there any methods to remember us what we are doing from moment to moment to avoiding losting our concentration?

(2) I think I gradually make taking notes as a habit、but I usually can't write my notes fast enough, give me some advice、please?

Among these advisable methods , I think that I always use two of them . The first is ''Plan your days '' . In such a busy life , it is impossible to remember everything that happens in a day , let alone a long period of time without record , therefore , I will plan what I should finish on a weekly basis . In fact , there are many items that I didn't finish . I always try my best to make more appropriate plans . "Read for understanding" is another thing I think I am always using . In senior high school , we students were forced to read each article in a short time . We formed the habit of reading as fast as we can , but I consider it too rough . The author recommend that we follow the steps "skim" , "reflect" , "read" , and "review" . I will use those tips in my reading next time .

Besides , "Take charge of your mind" and "Refuse to tolerate confusion" are two recommendation interest me most . First , if I can take charge of my mind , I can concentrate more on many trifle thing , either in school work or daily life . This must begin with my self-descipline . Maybe I will practice paying attention for a short time in beginning , and then lengthen the time gradually . Next , I hope that I can refuse to tolerate confusion . We all know that knowledge is composed of learning and questioning , so learning to ask question is an indispensable part in our study . Next time when I encounter problems , I hope that I can muster up my courage to ask for help .

About "Study efficiently" , the author says that we should choose the right time to study , while everyday 's schedule is different , and there is no knowing when my best reading time is . Speaking of choose the right time , I seemed to read whenever I was free . Is there any suggestion about this problem ?

Now the story goes on, as tell many of Edward's youth stories, now it's time to tell something interesting about his mid-life and his old life.
The author uses four parts called "My Father's Death: Take 1 to 4" to describe how illness takes Edward's life away slowly. I think these are the main chapter and the most important parts of this book. Because during take 1 to take 4, we can see how William, Edward's son, changes. In William's childhood, Edward always tells jokes and many exaggerated stories about what he have been encountered. Moreover, Edward is seldom at home. That makes Williams feel so unreal, unsecure and have some misunderstanding of his father. He thinks that Edward is an unpractical and a little irresponsible person, though he knows that his father loves him and his mother and this home.

For the take 1, 2 and 3, as we know, Edward lies dying. William wants to know his father much better through this chance, but Edward just wouldn't stop telling jokes. That's really pissed William off. However, as the more stories have been told, not much time for his father, Williams becomes to realize that what his father have told him is what he is trying to say in the form of stories. For the take 4, it says that Edward is sent to the hospital. And the doctor says he won't live for tomorrow. A little unconscious of Edward lies in bed, William sits beside the bed and try to talk to his father. But all he can remember is joke, all the jokes that Edward have told him. So, he moves his mouth to speak to tell one of his father's jokes to his father......

I'm so glad that I have finally read this book over. I saw the movie before, and it touched me. But somehow the book moved me much better than the motion picture. As I read the "My Father Death: Take 4" I was so sad as if I was in that situation. 'Cause my dad, like Edward, loves to tell me a lot of funny stories. Sometimes I think he's a little exaggerated, just like William's thought, though I love every story he told me so much. After read this book, I found myself not knowing much about my father really. However, fortunately, my father is still strong and healthy enough in his mid-life. So, from now on, I will take the chance whenever I can to get to know my father better. No matter what means I use, I will know what my father really want to teach me.

At last, I want to share that I learn a great sentence through this book. It says " Opportunities come in disguise sometimes." Everyone should seize the chance when it comes to you, don't just turn a blind eye and let it go.

Book: Animal Farm

Author: George Orwell

Publishing Company: Bookman Books

Number of Pages: 113

Animal farm is an interesting fable. The outline of the story is that there are animals living in a farm and the owner of farm always abuses them. Finally, the animals are unable to stand unjust treating. They revolute and overthrow the host. Animals successfully establish their own farm and live in peace at first. Gradually, the leader of animals-a pig called Napoleon begins to abuse authority. The farm fell into disorder as before.

I had read Chinese edition before, so it is easier to me to realize the metaphor of story this time. I think that the story is a reflection of modern society. Author wrote this story to hint that people is greedy and eager for power and authority. Avarice not only happens in political events but also in our surrounding-company, class and all kind of organization Maybe, greed is human's inherent element and none of us doesn't desire for power. But after reading this short story, we can examine ourselves, our country and our world. By trying to restrain our desires and being more selflessness, our world must be more peaceful.

I am glad that I read this book in my youth. From now on, I will remind myself not to be greedy. Animal Farm is really a classic and meaningful novel. It's really worth reading.

After reading this article, I was surprise that there are many tips in learning. I thought deeply about my learning habit. I was shock that I had used some wrong ways in learning. I try to correct and now I have used some methods.

First, I make a list in my notebook to remind me what I should every day. Second, I chip away bog job into several parts to ease my pressure. I was glad that I got this strategy because I always hoped to finish my work as quickly as possible in the past. For example, in the weekend, I arranged all my work in Saturday and got whole free Sunday. But, it is not efficient way in learning. And it also makes me feel pressure. Now, I try to get up early in weekend. I writing down my learning schedule and I still leave some free time for myself to take break. By chipping away big job, I feel more relax and enjoy reading more.

Some methods I still don't use. I always read an article only one time. I just guess the meaning when I encounter puzzles in the article. According this introduction, maybe I should change my way in reading. First step of my plan, I skim the article and focus on headline. Then read carefully and circle what I don't understand. I will still guess the meaning. But once I can't understand definitely, I will look up dictionary or ask other until absolutely realize. Finally, I will try to keep a journal to record my mistake and see that I am improved or not .This plan is a little hard for me to reach. I will try my best in the future.

I have one question of the introduction. Read twice or more than two times can make me realize more. But if I don't have enough time as during the exam, is there another way in reading?

As the story goes on,these children begins to think what is going to do in the future.therefore another potential leader named jack arises from the group. jack suggests that they should set hunting as their priority.however the real leader ,ralph, thinks that they should set making signal fire as their priority. as a result . they begin breaking into two groups. at first there are no conflict between them.however, it is jack who starts to break the balance between them.

piggy first discovers the situation and warns the ralph to pay attention to that.but ralph ignores him and even forces piggy to give him his glasses as a tool to make fire.as time goes by, everyone are tired of taking care of signal fire and they just play and play.the so called principle they have established are all neglected and even despised.jack seems to become the new leader because he can bring everyone joy when they are hunting the pig.it also means that in fact human nature is very barbaric. once we get out of control,we cant never get back . just like these children ,they seems to forget what they ought to do and start to show the real nature inside of them which is having fun and being out of control.

when i read this . i am asking myself.if i were in that kind of situation, what would i become?can i still hold my sense and stick to rules? or i just would be as barbaric as they are.i am so afraid....................49777036廖士瑋 FGC

The Father and the Son

Author : Nick Tsou
Year of Publishing : 2008 , March
Number of pages : 187 pages(126-187)

The last chapter "The Father and the son" describes the subtle change between the main character and his father . At first , the little boy didn't know why his father treated them as if they were his soldiers . As time went by , he gragually understood the misery of his father ,and learned the fact that a lonely man , who was betrayed by his wife , was eager of love than any other . After the son had married and believed in God , he has matured either in boy or his mind . He began to think in other's situation . All he should know in his age is treasure the precious things he owned at present , not live in the shadow of the past .

Though this story is half imaginary and half true , the key meaning author wants to express to us is obvious - to cherish the moment when you can breathe . Thanks to the reading , I gained more understanding in my real life .

After one month's reading , I finally finished the book . Next time , I want to choose another style of literature . Maybe a horrifying story or a science fiction . I hope that I can improve my English by continuous reading , and by the various styles of books .

"Study efficiently" is one of the methods I already using. I always get up early instead of stay up late to study because I think it's very inefficient to do things when sleepy. I would clean up my desk and make sure that the light is sufficient before studying, it can makes me more concentrated on the books I'm going to read. Although a quiet place is also good for us when studying, I think if we really immerse ourselves fully, we may not notice the noise around us. "Plan your days is another method I already using. I would make a list of things to do and plan what to do everyday. But I think I have a lot to improve since I sometimes fail to be on track, and I'm trying to find out the reason. Maybe the axiom told in this book: combine tasks whenever possible is the way I can try to improve.
"Tackle unpleasant tasks immediately" is the one I would like to try must. Since I'm exactly the one tends to procrastinate unpleasant tasks and always choose the easier ones to do first. It's really makes me feel bad when knowing that a unpleasant task is waiting for me. So I think this method will benefit me a lot and I'm going to try it out. "Keep a journal" is also the method I am going to try out. I have just heard of this on a speech and learned the importance of keeping a journal. With the journal, we will remember what we have learned, we will know what we have studied everyday. It's good for our study, too.
I have understood the importance og asking questions. But sometimes I have confusions in class and don't know how to ask to solve it. What should I do when facing this situation and is there some ways to raise good questions?

During a journey, an young lady met a middle-age man, Maxim, who is much order than she is. After they fell in love at first sight, they soon got married. Maxim took his young wife, Mrs. de Winter, to his villa in England and decided to settle down. She became the famous hostess of Manderley overnight. Mrs. De Winter found that the late Maxim`s wife, Rebecca, was known by everybody as a perfect woman. Mrs. Danvers, the housekeeper, admired Rebecca so much as if Rebecca were still alive. She had great hostility towards the new Mrs. De Winter. Mrs. De Winter gradually found that the death of Rebecca remained a mystery and Maxim always purposely avoided talking about it.

This book has ten chapters, and I`ve finished half of the book in these two weeks, and the other half is planned to be finished for the next two weeks. The story seems so mysterious and interesting that it attracts me. It has been adapted into a movie and an opera. Until now I still can`t find the main line in the story because I haven`t finished it yet, I can`t wait to finish the book to figure out the mystery!

Basic information of the book:

Book title: Miss Potter

Author: Richard Maltrby Jr.

Publishing company: Penguin group

Year of publishing: 2006

Number of pages: 189

The story continued. Mr. Warne helped Miss Potter publish her book. It earned her a fortune. Most important of all, she fell in love with Mr. Warne. Miss Potter also made a new friend, Millie, Mr. Warne's sister. She helped Miss Potter a lot. When Potter and Warne wanted to get married, Potter's parents did not approve of their marriage. After they overcame the disagreement, they should have got married, but they didn't. Mr. Warne died of sick. Miss Potter was heartbroken. At that time, William Heelis, a solicitor, gave her comforts and accompany with her. Finally, Miss Potter and Mr. Heelis got married.

In the story, we know that Beatrix Potter is a very different kind of women. She has her thoughts. She's brave enough to find her true love and make her dream come true, publish a book. She tries every effort to achieve her goals, fussy about her work. For instances, she drove a printer crazy mixing ideal colors.

When I read to the part that Potter's parents do not agree her marriage, I thought how old-fashioned they are at first. But after a deep thought, I agree her parents. How come a woman can marry a man that they only knew each other for few months. As an ordinary woman in that era, a woman only met a man in her parents arrangements. I don't think Mr. Warne actually is her Mr. Right. After all, she met little friends.

The story just happened as what I guessed. Miss Potter and Mr. Warne fell in love, but I didn't guess that Mr. Warne will die. I stunned with Beatrix. What a pity!

The author gave deep descriptions of the characters interactions. I can feel the characters' emotions. I said that the book is not fascinated to me last time. This time, I really enjoy reading this book and it is a fascinated novel.

Charlie Babbitt's father died, he thought he would get a lot if money, but the money went to someone who cannot use it and he didn't know. He was very angry about that! Charlie then found out who was going to look after the money and went to see the man, named Dr Walter Bruner. There he met Raymond who was going to receive the money. Raymond is Charlie's brother but he is different from other people: he is a autistic. He can't feel and there is not any expression on his face.
Charlie then decided to kidnap Raymond for money. But after he found out that Raymond was the one he loved so much and took care of him when he was a child. Raymond is his secret friend and he missed him so much after Paymond was sent to Wallbrook. He went to see Dr Bruner again to fight for the custody. But this time, not for the money, but for his brother who loved deeply.

Rain Man was the name called by Charlie when he was little, because he couldn't say Raymond. I think this symbolized the love between Charlie and Raymond. This made a big change of Charlie and he finally found his secret man.
This book is based on a screenplay. I would like to find the movie out after reading this novel. I want to learn more about people with the problem as Raymond. And because the introduction says that the acter who played Raymond had worked very hard to learn as much as possible about people like Raymond, it attracts me more.
I have paid less time to read this week because of the mid-term exam. I think if I really want to improve my English, I should read everyday. So, I have made up my mind to read English novels everyday and for longer time than before. And I think I have to learn how to make good use of my time, too.

The story reached a climax at the very begining. To escort Harry to the Burrow, the Order decided to carry out the "seven Potors"plan. However, they failed to trick Voldemort about the date, and they have to fight with him and Death Eaters. Finally they succeed,at he cost of Mad-Eye and HedWig's death. However,it was not the end of challenge from Voldemort. They killed the minister, controled the Ministry of Magic, and Harry ,Ron, Hermonie was forced to escape to Grimmauld Place. The condition seems couln't be more terrible. However, they found some important clues of Horcrux in the house.

Although I have already read the chinese editon, I still found I have to take some times to get used to the contemporary British English. It is quiet different from the English I have ever learned.
For example, they will use "tha'" as "that". Moreover, the eay they used words is quite different from the textbook or classical literature.I think after reading this book , I could improve my English ability in a different aspect.

1. Among those methods, I had tried is "plan your days" and "study efficiently". I always plan my days in a small notebook. I write down when should I study and what should I do. But every time I saw my notebook, I felt guilty because I seldom follow it. I know I can't get up early to study, so I always do the study work afternoon. I also know I'm easy to be distracted by other things, so I always found a library to study. A quiet place makes me more concentrated on my study.

2. I think the first I will tried in those methods is "keep a journal". Therefore I can not only know what I had done every day but also to check if I had followed my plan. The other is "take charge of your mind". I think I should concentrate on my study and make it more effect.

3. My question about this article. I know taking notes is a good way to keep concentrate. Except that, is there other way to keep concentrate?

For One More Day
Author: Mitch Albom
Publishing Company: Hyperion Books
Number of pages: 197
This is a story of a mother and a son, it reminds me of the greatness of my parents. Thinking of the relationship between my parents and I, they often oppose to what I intend to do for some reason that I cannot agree on the instant, and I even have a debate with them for my own idea. But as I grow up, I started to realize the thought they used to held, whatever they do they were to protect me.
My parents are always there to give me supports. In the contrast, seldom do I give them support and sometimes even ignore the supports they gave. No matter what difficulty I face, they won' t leave me alone. Their love for us will never change! How dumb am I to realize such an easy concept after leaving home.
I decide to pay more concern to them, try to support their idea, and most important, to convey my love for them. Hope it won't be too late and hope that I have enough time to accompany them.
At the end of the story, his mother asked the leading role to learn how to "parden himself". This is what I also have to learn, try not to be so strict to myself in some aspect. Open my heart to accept the mistake I have made, so that I can be braver to welcome all the possibility in the future.

I`ve been searching for the answer of this question ── how to be a critical thinker and a good learner. I guess that there`s no specific answers but many useful methods that should be tried. Reading this article, I found that there are some strategies I`ve never thought of before, and I should try them.

I consider planning my days as an important way to manage my life. I always have a note book with me so that I can know what tasks I should finish today. After I complete the work, I eliminate it on my list. It`s really a great method that I think everybody should try.

I am fond of the strategy of viewing frustrations as opportunities , because I am of the opinion that frustrations can be turning points that may lead to success. When I feel frustrated, I admit that the thought of running away have come to my mind, but I seldom give up, because I view it a chance to improve myself. Instead of neglecting it, keeping working on the task with efforts can lead to different and better result.

Keeping a journal is the method that I`m doing now. It`s important to me to record information I receive. I`ll make it a habit in my daily life so that I can get important information immediately when it is need.

Capturing insights is interesting to me. I`ve tried this strategy, but I usually failed to seize my ideas in time and the ideas just faded away. I want to try it again to record all the ideas that come to my mind.

I used to postpone unpleasant tasks, though I knew that it`s not a good habit. I would try this strategy for it seems challenging.

My question towards the article is that, in "Plan your days", there are three axioms of efficiency, what does "Simplify what must be done" mean?

In "Reading for understanding", there are four key words in the paragraph ── skim, reflect, read, review. Usually I read the chapter without skimming it, and I underline the sentences that I consider to be important during my first-time reading, and during my second-time reading (review), I will mark what I think to be key words. I think that my method is much easier for me to catch important information and that the method in the paragraph may not be suitable for me because I am of the opinion that it may take much time than my own method. Another question is that, is my thought correct or is there anything I should change in my habit?

Among this week, I have focused on the forth story of the book, Beyond Translation. The narrator was an England immigrant from India. Each summer in his childhood, he went back to Calcutta, a Hindu city, to visit his uncle, aunt and cousins. However, the narrator did not know how to speak Bengali, the main language spoken in India, while his cousins did not understand English. because of language barrier, they seldom expressed their ideas or thoughts to others. Nevertheless, They usually went to Calcutta's bookshop together, and the narrator bought the book written in English and his cousins bought the books in Bengali. The narrator said his cousins and he never "encroached" each other's territory, which means they never tried to understand what other language books are about.

Even through in the same family, because of different background, the family still has the gap between each other. The narrator said he was "only" the visitor, and he did not know what his cousins thought. I think different stories they read represented different "world" they live in. That is, although the blood kept them together each summer, they had nothing other in common. And they never knew what other stories are about.

During this time of reading, I found that I have read faster than before. That's because I know more about India and have experience of how the writer expressed his ideas from previous chapters. However, because some midterms have not been done, I have no enough time to finish the book, which was planned. I think I can progress more after midterms since I will have more time.

I am glad I am almost finishing the first English novel in university. And I hope during this week I can have chances to continue the next novel. At the next novel, I will chose the book that are more suitable for my vocabulary level and I will also concentrate on the book of the whole long story instead of the book of components of several stories to challenge my reading skills.
